Reading that kinda confused me, I have a very low bodyfat % something around %11, but I have no muscle definition at all, I just started lifting and using the right diet a few weeks ago does the info only apply to those that have been lifting?

Those pictures are kind of misleading, you have to have the same muscle content as those guys to look like that, if you arnt as big, you will look fatter.

Interesting. I think I'm somewhere between the "hard" and the "cut" state. So maybe 11% bodyfat?

That guide is pretty useless in my opinion. Those guys at 20% certainly do not look like the majority of people at 20%. I think you can even see the abs of the guy with his shirt off.

It's gonna be somewhat misleading because they are much bigger than your average person, plus people carry fat differently in their bodies i.e. some people carry more fat in their butt or stomach. I look at those pics and my abs seem to be even to the 10% area, but my arms look more like the 12% pics. I'm assuming I just carry more fat in my arms, or else that guys arms are just pretty large so they look a lot better.

    I think it's a great post!

To those who think it's misleading... What does it matter that they are bigger? So you're saying because they're 200+ lbs at 20% that they are going too look any different than someone who's 150lbs at 20% in the way their cuts look?

If you could take your eyes off the pretty pictures and read his descriptions you'll notice they are pretty much perfect. Obviously everyone's going to be a little different...

    For example...
7-9% bodyfat - Abs are clearly visible all the time, vascularity in arms is prominent, chest and back separation is obvious, and face is starting to appear more angular. Therefore, because my abs are not always clearly visible I KNOW I'm not 7-9% bf..

10% bodyfat - Muscle separations get deeper in the arms, chest, legs and back, and abs appear when flexed. Ok... Closer to how I look...

12% bodyfat - More muscle separation appears particularly in the chest and back, outline of the abs begins to appear slightly. Well... I'd say my abs are more than an outline...

THEREFORE, I can conclude I am close to 10% bodyfat...

Wicked post. Those who think it's misleading can't read.

Nice post. I'm guessing I'm around 15% now, since I've got noticable separation around my delts, arms, chest, and back. My abs are *slightly* visible when I flex in certain light, but not all the time, since I'm still carrying a 36" waist left over from my fatty days.

Again though, I'm not saying it's a terrible post. I think it's pretty cool personally. But not everyone carries fat in the same places and not everyone is huge. Pro-bodybuilders still look muscular in the offseason even with bf% in the 20's. Regular lifters just look fat at bf% in the 20's. There are so many factors that come into play. But I agree that it is a great basic guide.

I think the thread got relocated. Not sure where exactly but I've seen it before.

EDIT: I googled "body fat percentage pics" and this is the first thread that came up. Still pretty helpful.

The pic of the "shredded" guy is pretty crazy. He looks like some kind of anatomy diagram of muscles and veins. I'm not really into bodybuilding so perhaps I'm just not used to that kind of look.

yea the pic of the abdominator at the shredded stage reminds me of one of the skinless people from the hellraiser films! freaky!

and i dont even wanna look at the guy in the 'sliced' stage! wow, that low bodyfat!

the two guys at 20% bf are quite an unrealistic guide for that level of bf, as they are very muscular with it. It makes that level of bf look pretty good actually!
