Yes I'm a newbie. But Id rather be informed than sit around and do something wrong. Anyways, my question is this:

I am currently working out 4 times a week. 2 days on, 2 days off in hope of gaining some serious mass. I am begining to think that I am working too hard and not giving myself enough time inbetween workouts to recoup/gain weight.
Problem is, I am addicted to hitting the gym every other day and I feel like I might lose motivation if I stop going so frequently. I was thinking of going every other day to ride a bike for 10-15 minutes. My concern is that, will riding a bike a few times a week slim me down and hurt my weight gain? My legs are pretty lanky as is, and im not sure if the bike will build make my legs bigger or smaller.

    Thanks in advance,
    Frank

if you are skinny you should try to limit your cardio and up your caloric intake. a four day split isn't bad asuming that you have everything figured out so that you aren't training body parts too often.

If you feel you don't have enough time to recuperate its for a damn good reason, do yourself a favor and cut down to 3 times a week and start eating more! Don't make the same mistake we all make of over training in the beginning, thinking that more is better, thats not the case with body building. You can eat as much tuna as you want but not train as much as you want . By coming here and admiting that youre a newbie and asking for help is very mature of you, im sure youll do the right thing. AS for losing motivation; if you have a goal and want to reach it real bad, the motivation will be there, just tell yourself that by cutting on workouts, you have more time to eat

Thanks for the replies. I think I might cut it down to
2 days a week, or set up my workout to be a 3 days split
during the weekdays or something. As for eating, im trying my best to pig out, but im not used to it, but ive put on 7lbs since new years, I can already see/feel a big difference. My goal was 20lbs in 2 months, but at this rate ill probably get past that. Im pretty damn pleased

    totally agree with Frankster..

I wish I had of been aware of overtraining when i first started workout out.. I was in the gym 5 times a week.. Didn't really get anywhere..

If you want a good 3 day aplit to put on some muscle try the wannabebig routine.. It is perfect in my opinion fro someone who naturally has a high metablism..

Low volume, consists of compound exercises and allows for good rest in betweenm muscle groups...

Keep us posted on how ya get on

LOL - where here I am 7 years later.. stopped working out a few months after that post. Just got injured a few times in a row, that was enough. Back then I was 6'2" and about 150lbs. I'm still the same height, but my metabolism slowed the hell down around 26 years old, and again at 28. I'm now floating around 184lbs, mostly healthy fat and muscle. Hehe

You gave advice to a guy who asked for it seven years ago...

    You're a little late!
