The Five Biggest Contradictions in Fitness

Itís no secret that when people contradict themselves, it has the effect of making the flaws in their actions or statements seem glaringly obvious. But what about when WE ourselves get caught contradicting ourselves by someone else?

    Yep, but that's life for ya. No biggy, I'm over it. My coach actually apolgize for designing the workout like that since my shoulders were shot before the FS, we finished that high volume cycle anyway, onto a more fat-loss/powerlifting type cycle now.

    Today's workout:

    Total time : ~40 minutes

    Bear Complexes - 60 sec rest between sets
    5sets x 7reps @ 95lbs

    DB Swings (like KB Swings) - 40 sec rest between sets
    65lbs with both hands x 12 reps
    45lbs x 12 reps with each hand @ 3 sets

    Turkish-Get Ups - 20 sec rest between sets
    25lbs x 5reps each side @ 3 sets

    Planks
    30 secs each side, and facing down

    HIIT
    5 minute warm-up
    6 minutes 15/45 sec (sprint/walk)

    Done. Didnt do this workout as planned, had to strap on the bears cause I just couldnt hold onto the bar for that many minutes with no rest, and the planks got cut short before 3 sets. So looking forward to getting my conditioning up and finishing this workout. The workout wooped my ass, but had a lot of fun, and it's different from what I'm used to.

    Looking forward to see how this kind of stuff carries over to my over-all condition, physique, and strength.

    June 1st, 2010

    Burpees
    30, wait 20 secs, 20

    Prowler

    20 pushes @ 100 feet, +70lbs with 20 sec rest periods between pushes.

    Done. Felt good, the burpees still burn in my quads like nothing else, and I am having a hard time breaking that 30-35 mark on the first set. Could be from yesterday's workout, or the 2 low carb days in a row...so I'm happy with today's workout.

    The pushes felt like they took forever, but I just keep pluggin away at em and before I knew it they were done.

    255 x 3 --> 295 x 3
    255 x 3 --> 275 x 3
    255 x 3 --> 275 x 3
    255 x 3 --> 275 x 3

    Pushups superset w/ Pullups
    BW x 40 --> BW x 8
    BW x 21 --> -25lbs x 8
    BW x 25 --> -35lbs x 8

    Cable Fly superset w/ DB Rows
    25 x 12 --> 85 x 12
    25 x 12 --> 85 x 12
    15 x 12 --> 85 x 12

    Done. Definitely a fun day, and was a nice treat to have some carbs in my system after the last two days. Had 340 grams sweet potatoes and 214g London Broil pre-workout.

    Strength and muscle are slightly increasing, conditioning is definitely increasing, all the while I'm slowly dropping weight. Things are definitely headed in the right direction.

    I love it, made mine at home with my dad, cost me about $80 total. Used 4x4's and 6'' lag bolts. I have only used it for GPP/Conditioning so far, and haven't made any workouts with it but I do like it a lot for that. Definitely a fun way to get in shape without worrying about muscle-loss.

    Today's Workout
    June 4th, 2010
    Total Time : ~50-55minutes

    Squats
    225 x 6
    315 x 5
    365 x 3
    385 x 3
    385 x 3

    275 x 8

    Leg Extensions ss w/ Lunges
    85 x 20 --> BW x 20 (each leg)
    70 x 20 --> BW x 20 (each leg)

    DB SLDL
    80 x 6
    90 x 6
    100 x 6

    Lying Leg Curl
    110 x 10
    140 x 10

    Swiss Ham Curls
    BW x 10
    BW x 10

    Leg Press Calves
    4pps x 15
    4pps x 15

    Seated Calves
    2plates x 15
    2plates x 15

    HIIT
    4 minute warmup
    12 minutes (15sec sprint / 45 sec walk)

    Done. Felt good, since I haven't been squatting much at all I kinda assumed the weight was going to feel heavy like it did. Normally I'd be hitting 405 for all those triples pretty easy, but I did weigh in around 212 this morning so the strength loss with the squats is acceptable I guess. Not exactly ideal in my book, but I know it's not a focus of Blitz's so I'll deal with it, because the aesthetic progress is definitely there.

    Condition is still impressing me every workout, I'm able to stay in my zone the whole workout because I'm not feeling winded or dead anymore. The HIIT is pretty enjoyable the way we have it set up, and helps get some nice blood flow through my muscles and loosen the legs up.

    Yeah, I guess a little naive of me living and Jersey all...when i think about it now I'm not really surprised it happen, but it still sucks lol

    I like cycling a lot actually, the progress has been awesome, and I think 205lbs @ 6-7% is definitely do-able by the end of the summer.

    Thanks man, definitely not what I'm used to...but I'm down to 210, and definitely bigger than I've ever been.

    Arms/calves measured 18'', and legs are 28''.

    Curious where my strength is at in a year or two, my coach is very confident I'll total elite as a junior so that's cool.

    Solid workout, had a hole drilled into my belt like I mentioned, and the tightness helped. Speed was better on the squats, and endurance seems to be on par so that's a plus.

    I never thought of the fact that as I lost 15+ pounds my belt wouldn't fit anymore, so it was nice to have that tightness back.

    I've been hitting the weights / conditioning as hard as ever, but this Chem II class has pretty much consumed most of my free time, pretty much sucks. Can't wait for it to be over in two weeks, so I can enjoy a little bit of summer like any 21 yr old should. Summer classes are the worsttttt

    Down to 203lbs by the way, and he's some recent videos of lifts.

    Yea, unfortunately I just trained my ass into the ground. I'm over trained as fukc right now, and gettin sick. Taking 2 days off, and switching up the routine.

    My coach forgot to change my workouts...so I have been doin all this high volume BS with like 1200-1600 calories. I'm all fuc.ked up, feelin depressed, no energy..really not fun.

    So we are goin back to a heavier weights / lower volume routine, hopefully 5/3/1 or DC ... any get things back on trakc.

    Sup Nate! Glad to see your back man, and don't worry...Muscle memory is a glorious thing

    Thanks, been bustin my ass lately, actually just dieted down and lost about 16lbs.

    Unfortunately I'm battling some sort of stomach virus/bacteria or food poisoning. Been dealing with completely liquid stool for three days, and can barely stay hydrated...it sucks.

    I'm takin the rest of the week off and startin up a new routine next week, a more strength focused one..woohoo.
    Don't asker for a light load, but a strong back.

    Didnt realized you had lost so much weight. Are you leaning up to a show? Dropping a PL weight class?

    Sucks about summer school...its really intense especially for a core class like chem II. I wanted to shoot myself a few years ago when I took bio 101 and 102 in summer session.

    Sucks about food poisoning. You vomiting too? Fever? How fast did symptoms come on

    Just got kinda tired of being a sloppy 230lbs, and one of the other sales reps for the supplement company I work for does dieting, workouts, contest prep, consulting, etc. etc.

    So we've been working together for 10 weeks, with 6 more to go.

    He said the way I'm going I probably could do a show at the end of this dieting, but I'll be getting ready to take the GRE's for grad school and don't wanna half ass anything.

    I just hate chem II cause of all the math, integrations, etc. etc.

    Bio, anatomy and physiology, all that stuff is cake...I just need to re-take this Chem II to boost my GPA for grad school. It ends next Thursday though, so just tryin to finish out strong.

    Symptoms came on Sunday morning, had extremeeee DOMS from Saturday's leg workout. I think it was just the culmination of 0carb days, lower calories, plus the super high intensity/volume workouts, and then I may have caught a stomach virus or something...just made for a real nasty combination.

    Just had some Wendy's while I was a little hungry just to pack some calories in my system, hopefully help get me back on my feet.
