    Gloves or no gloves?

When I first started lifting weights, I used no gloves. But when I started using the barbell and doing deadlifts, my hands would get really messed up so I started wearing gloves. I have been thinking a bit and feel that using no gloves would be more "natural". Anyone agree?

What do you guys use? Gloves or no gloves?

I will try using no gloves for a while and see if I get stronger.

Gloves make harder to hold onto stuff. It's up to you.

Chalk. I tell you, I could not deadlift more then 245 twice because my hands got so damn sweaty, and gloves didn't help at all. My next deadlifting session I brought rock climbing chalk, I was deading 275 6 times.

Gloves are awful for deadlifting. They make it so hard to grip the bar when going heavy.

On the other hand, they are great for doing farmer's walks if you are intentionally doing grip exercise.

Gloves don't always hinder your grip, depending on the type you buy. I don't like gloves like Harbinger or whatever; way too bulky. The gloves I use are very flexible and breathable and don't hinder grip at all. I use straps for deadlifts. For certain lifts wearing bulky gloves will definitely make it more difficult to move more weight.

Do you go after the girls that also like the fact that you wax your eyebrows and get manicures?

just recently stopped using gloves...grip feels a lot better...it will hurt for the first couple of weeks as you start to build calluses...especially pullups and deads...but in the end i'm glad i stopped using gloves

I used to use gloves for deadlifts and shrugs. Then I stopped being a pansy and now I go without gloves 100% of the time.

I use gloves, and my hands are still all ****ed up.

I've tried lifting without them, but after a few years of using them, it feels insanely awkward without them on. So, I keep 'em.

At the very least, they are preventing stuff from slipping out of my hands (I'm quite the sweater), so they ARE doing something.

And before anyone recommends chalk instead, I happen to lift in a gym that doesn't allow chalk. There is literally a sign on the wall.
