Generally, what are the different categories for powerlifting? Im sure 5'4 guys dont compete against the 6'3 guys.
Im 5'11 and still growing and I wanted to know where I could comfortably be in terms of weight when it comes to competing.
at 5'11 I would say you want to weigh at least 250+ although alot of members will not agree with me

At 5' 11" you could legitimately be 320 or bigger.

275's, if your lean you might be able to pull off 242's.
Put up as much weight as you can and compete in whatever weightclass you fall in. The only # to worry about is what's on the end of the bar, not the scale.

I lifted at the ipf worlds a couple of weeks back- I'm 5'8 and lift in the 242s- I was one of the tallest- I'm booking a ticket to rhodestown and moving up at least 1 class pronto.
At 5'11" you shouldn't be under 300 lbs.

If you're semi-serious about competing, you shouldn't be comfortable. You'll be competing the best when you are uncomfortable with your weight. To give you an idea, I'm 5'10" and weigh 225lbs. I'm a lean 225lbs with still visible abs. I need to gain at least 50lbs to ever really be competitive and that's not just trying to comform to the "bigger is better" mentality. That's just how it'll have to be. Once you been competing for a year or 2 you'll start to understand more about what it takes.

I'm 5'11 @ 240 never tried lifting in gear, but would probably not be very strong in comparison to some others. I'm pretty fat now but was thinking of trying to get up to 250-260 and see if my strength follows. I use to think I would never get up to 220.
I would just try get stronger and in most cases you will need to keep putting on wt and muscle to do that.
