The Five Biggest Contradictions in Fitness

Itís no secret that when people contradict themselves, it has the effect of making the flaws in their actions or statements seem glaringly obvious. But what about when WE ourselves get caught contradicting ourselves by someone else?

Out of the night that covers me,Black as the Pit from pole to pole,I thank whatever gods may be for my unconquerable soul. In The fell clutch of circumstance I have not winced nor cried aloud. Under the bludgeonings of chance my head is bloody, but unbowed. Beyond this place of wrath and tears looms but the horror of the shade And yet the menace of the years finds, and shall find, me unafraid. It matters not how strait the gate how charged with punishments the scroll,I am the master of my fate: I am the captain of my soul.

If you are talking about for football, which your name implies you are, they usually mean Squat+Bench+Power Clean. A good total for a high schooler would be 750-1,000+ depending on size.

In powerlifting, though, it's Squat+Bench+Deadlift. A good total would be 1,200+ depending on size.

In Olympic lifting it's Snatch+Clean and Jerk. A good total would be 450-600+ depending on size.

Okay. I assume it's Squat+Bench+Power Clean, then. Those are good numbers those kids have on your varsity team.

Heh, I don't know about the 100 club, I don't think I could reach that total.

My highschool had the same thing though. They gave shirts to students who could reach 700, 900, or 1100 totals. I am pretty sure it was for bench, squat, and deads. I don't think powercleans were part of it.

Depends how much you weigh, how long you've been training, what your current maxes are, etc.

A simple goal is "just get stronger"

It also depends on what your goals are in terms of weight gain too. If you plan on staying at (example) 150lbs but want to reach a total of 1100, your gonna have a much harder time than if you planned on bulking to say 200 over the course of 4 years (length of highschool).

^^^ gain slowly; if you gain weight too fast you will gain fat and your speed will diminish. Try to eat around 200-400 calories above matainence.

I usually hit weight and height plateaus and no matter what I do its hard to gain until the next big jump.

I think that is just because I'm young right now.
