The Five Biggest Contradictions in Fitness

Itís no secret that when people contradict themselves, it has the effect of making the flaws in their actions or statements seem glaringly obvious. But what about when WE ourselves get caught contradicting ourselves by someone else?

Dental braces...just got 'em in today

I just turned 18 last month, so at first I was a bit nervous to get them seeing as how most people get them when they're younger (12-13 years old). But honestly it's not that bad, other than eating (which is kind of bad actually considering I want to bulk up). It is hurting like hell since it's the first day, but I think I'll get used to them. Just gotta pop the pain pills, avoid solid foods for a week, and brush very thoroughly.

Anyone care to share your experiences (funny, painful, random) with braces?

When I was a lad, we didn't have pain pills. We had rubber bands, retainers and slurred speech instead.

the worst part is getting them tightened and then the wire is ALWAYS a little too long and stabs into your mouth all day.

Awful. It's like a Jewish concentration camp in your mouth for 3 years. Have fun. But it IS worth it. I get compliments on my teeth all the time.

    +1

You'll get used to it after a couple days. After a week eating will be no problem. Except when they tighten them.

I didn't think having braces was that bad...It sucks looking like a tard for a few years, but without straight teeth, you prob won't get far with the ladies.

Retainers are BS though, I wore mine for like a day, chucked it, and my teeth are still perfect 7 years later.

Tightening is the worst without question. It's so worth it once you get them off, though.

Haha I don't think it makes me look like a tard. I do have the clear kind that doesn't look as noticeable as straight-up metal though, so maybe that helps.

    Ah, the tightening! I'm scared.

And yeah...Hatred, what's up with that avatar? lol

Tightening never bothered me too much. If I knew a lot of work was going to be done or I had a major change (like rubber bands) I would take some pain killers before I got there or right after I left.

I had a lot of jaw problems, so I am still afraid to go without my retainer for long periods of time. It's been about seven years since I got my braces off. Plus, one of my neighbors had braces a total of three times because she never wore her retainer. I wore my retainer all the time when I first got it, then switched to only at night, and now I wear it only if my jaw bothers me or I feel that it's been too long since the last time I wore it. I have a permanent retainer on my bottom teeth though. You can't see it. If you can, try to talk your orthodontist into giving you permanent ones.

I've had metal in my mouth for about 9 years now so I'm kind of used to it and have never had any real issues. Make sure you get some dental wax in case there are any protruding bits of metal, tightening (in my case) hurts but pop some paracetomol and slurp on icecream and protein shakes. Aside from that... Enjoy your orthodontal experience!

I feel ya bro... I had headgear... I had to wear it in school. I thought it was cool, made me look like a helicopter pilot lol.

Braces were a breeze in comparison, but tis definately worth it.

Reading some of these responses its time like these Im super thankful for my straight teeth.
Being a strong teenager means nothing.

My wrists hurt, but some people don't have wrists to be sore. My knees have tendinitis, but some people don't have legs to get tendinitis in. I seem to be going backwards with training, yet some people can't even walk let alone lift 400 pounds on a daily basis.

Dust out the vagina, and keep on lifting.

Your teeth might be straight, but how is your jaw?

At the ripe old age of 25, my brother is being threatened by the dentist to go get some braces to fix his jaw. My aunt got braces in her 40s because of her jaw. You might want to go get it looked at while you're young.
