Question for people on Ron Paul .

I was digging Ron a bit , there are a few things I hear from him I dont like but quite a few I like .

I was on Stormfront.org the other day reading what those morons are talking about and they overwhelmingly support Ron Paul . That throws up a red flag for me on Ron Paul .

I jump on that site every so often and laugh at the the biggest idiots alive today . They love Ron Paul ... whats up with that ? When I read their opinions of why they like Ron , I dont like Ron as much . Anyone they support I couldnt since they are complete idiots .
Give me your broken , give me your beaten ... I will build them up , I will lead them ... to the threshhold . Make you stronger , make you believe .

I don't venture onto that site. What points are they agreeing with (related to Ron Paul), that you don't or that make you nervous?

Ron Paul has tons of nut cases following him. He's got neo-nazis, 9/11 "truthers" and all kinds of crazy people. It is kind of a turn off for me, too. It's probably because he opposes government involvement in just about everything, including affirmative action.

If wackos support him, perhaps he supports the positions these wackos support? If that's so... why would a sane person support him? Brawl is Teh Sane. Ron Paul was interesting to me at first also... but once I did some googling and looked into his stance on some key issues for me I wrote him off.

Ok, why the hell were you on Stormfront to start with?

Truthfully, a lot of the WP groups have very libertarian viewpoints on a lot of issues, including a reduction in the size of the federal government, immigration reform, and a whole lot more. I don't support the WP/racialist "movement" at all (in fact, it's just juvenile as far as I'm concerned), but agree with a lot of the problems some of those groups talk about.

If you're a right thinking person, you'll never find a candidate whose opinions perfectly mirror your own. For my money, Paul is the best shot this country has at getting things under control.

Don't look at his supporters, look at the issues and policies he supports. That will be a far better gauge of whether to vote for him.

Weightlifting is also popular among some White Power supporters, you should probably stop that as well. Just because a whacko likes something doesn't mean its wrong.

Ron Paul is the pro-freedom candidate. If you value personal independence and desire a limited government you would think he's a good candidate.

If you think he has good positions support him, if not, then find a candidate to your liking. Don't judge him on a small minority of his followers.

    The arguments are parallel.

A whacko supports object a, you don't like said whacko, so you assume you don't like object a.

The white power guys like Ron Paul, but it could be for any number of reasons that have nothing to do with their white power movement.

For example, the white power guys might like Freedom of Speech because it lets them spread racist rhetoric. This doesn't mean you should hate freedom of speech.

    Its an association fallacy.

This isn't entirely true, but that isn't really the focus. nejar's comparison is pretty spot on.

Seriously, if you're judging your opinion of a candidate by his supporters without looking into what he actually stands for, you're not really being the most responsible citizen you can be. It's not like only whackjobs support Dr. Paul. Hell, just read around here, there are a lot of intelligent people that have no agenda other than love of country as the motivator for change.

A few bad apples aren't really going to spoil it for everyone.

There are a bunch of whackjobs supporting the other candidates, too.

As someone who followed RP's campaign closely I found it puzzling that anyone thought he was a racist. The man hardly ever utters words that even remotely resemble racism but sure enough the media is out to get him and the average person just eats it up.

Brawl, apparently you may have been digging but it seems like you have selective goggles on or something. Ron Paul has openly stated that he would consider Walter Williams, a black economist who has endorsed Ron Paul, as his Vice President in the event that he won the primaries. Also apparently you didn't realize that many of the prominent libertarians that RP looks up to and makes references to are Jews. Also apparently you didn't realize that according to polls Ron Paul gets the highest percentage of support from African Americans than any other GOP candidate.

Yes he has been in pictures with White supremacists but when you're on the campaign trail you don't even say anything more than a sentence or two to the people you take photo-ops with. I'm an anarchist and an atheist and I took a picture with Ron Paul, does that make him either of those things? Obviously not.

Truth be told these Storm Front people must be either stupid or conspiring to mess up Ron Paul's candidacy (and doing a damned good job of it). Things like affirmative action and the welfare state do more to hurt minorities than to help so if they really wanted to keep non-Whites down then they'd actually increase the amounts received by minorities from the welfare state. Also Ron Paul is the only Republican who is against more or less destroying the Middle East and all Muslims within it.

The man is principled and has written essays blasting racism for its intrinsic collectivism. That's a lot better than most ACLU members could even do.

Anyway Brawl good job letting others dictate what you will and will not believe. I have a feeling you wouldn't like libertarian policies anyway since they tend to focus on the individual rather than groupthink.

People always complain about the government and the media but then they go and believe this sort of half-assed smear jobbing. It's a complete joke if you ask me and even Nejar was able to point out the lack of logic with the original post.

What is worse to you? People that have extremist beliefs that like your message of "Live and Let Live" and smaller federal gov't with less control over your life. And the candidate isn't involved with them, they are supporting him b/c they like his message. As in Ron Pauls case.

    Or.

Do you like a candidate who is intimately involved with a preacher, Jeremiah Wright, who basically hates white people and has stated so numerous times. As in Obama's case.

So you got a candidate who has a message of freedom that people he has no affiliation with and has never met or been involved with and people are concerned about that. And then you have the leading Democrat front runner who's preacher is a wll known racist and no one seems to care.

What scare you more? Being supported by whackos which you have no control over. Or being intimately involved with a whacko which you have control over.

Why not just look at his positions on the issues, and his philosophy, and decide for yourself whether he is the best candidate?

    It's really sad.
No one ever really talks about which candidates the white supremacists support.
But when you have 3rd party candidates (in this case, RP is being treated as third party even though he's going for one of the two party tickets), they ALWAYS use the "kook fringe" method to de-legitimize them, and they are doing it again.
People cannot see how Orwellian the two national parties are entrenched in with the media. Libertarians scare the ****k out of the two parties, because even though they squabble over issues, they both collude to horde power in government, and the libertarian idea is to give the power back to the people and limit the power of government.

It would all be much more obvious if our form of government was a dictatorship, because then his moves to gather more and more power would be more transparent to everyone... and his efforts to use the media would be difficult to disquise. But when you have "representatives" stretched all over washington DC and all over all the state governments all apart of the two colluding political aparatus, you the ability to measure their machinations is impossible.

The fringe nuts are almost always supportive of third party candidates. It doesn't matter if it's eco-terrorists, religious fanatics, racist groups, whatever. The fact that they do doesn't mean that the candidates support the fringe. Those fringe groups also pick candidates among the two parties, but you don't hear about that, because those candidates aren't questioned on it.
The very nature of fringe and kook groups is that they are almost always small and because of that, they are not moderated by the level-headed populace. You'll never get rid of fringe groups, they will always be out there. By definition they are small... "fringe", meaning outside and on the edges.

Ron Paul will NOT be president.
He wanted small government, and that's why he got the hatchet.
The hatchet itself was something he was not responsible for, but that doesn't matter. Politics is a blood sport. It's not fair. It's a power game.
No one pulls the lever for the people, but the people are just dumb monkeys staring at TVs having their reality handed to them.

I'll go to bat for Brawl, he's not that guy. I can honestly see where Brawl is coming from and how that will raise red flags. It is an honest concern and begs the question what does this candidate believe in that these types of groups agree with.

What ticks me off is that once the media gets a sniff of this it will be on the front of CNN.com and Fox will post it as a question at a debate. And it won't be that he believes in freedom and less gov't, but do you believe in their views.
