The Five Biggest Contradictions in Fitness

Itís no secret that when people contradict themselves, it has the effect of making the flaws in their actions or statements seem glaringly obvious. But what about when WE ourselves get caught contradicting ourselves by someone else?

Good workout bro. Funny I like T-bars more than bent over rows. Nice to hear your strength is making a full rebound. Youll be smashing PRs in short order man.

"Shrug face kept to a minimum..."

That's too funny. It reminds me of the guy shrugging 2pps in the My New Haircut video.

Nice workout. It looks like you're getting back into things real nicely.

Mmmmm bent-rows. I might get back into those for a bit. Strong squats, bro, and strong deads too. You'll be back at 3pps in a couple weeks. Just keep at it of course.

Thanks man. Yeah what strength I gained is coming back. It's annoying to think where I might be if I hadn't taken time off but I shouldn't even bother dwelling on that.

Yeah it felt good, though I still have a ways to go. Thanks for the support jed.

Thanks for the words Coke, I always appreciate it. This time around I"m not going to attempt to squat heavy (for me) every time. I'm borrowing from Westside a bit and alternating ME and DE squat days. Going heavy every time was too much for my hips to handle.

Thanks K, feedback from you is always appreciated. BO rows are not my favorite, but I can't stand T bar rows and these felt way better. And, a couple weeks? I'm gonna try for it tomorrow! Injury report to follow.

Warmups: 5 min row machine, some stretching

    Bench:

    bar x 10
    95 x 5
    135 x 3
    150 x 3 x 5

The last two reps were real grinders, but I got em.

    Deadlift:

    135 x 5
    185 x 5
    225 x 3
    275 x 1
    315 x 2

I may have pushed too much to get back up to 315. My hands gave out and I couldn't get a 3rd rep. 5 reps at same weight next time.

    "DE" Squat:

    135 x 10 x 3

I'm borrowing a principle from Westside I guess in that I'm squatting light and fast on days that I bench and deadlift, and heavy on days that I don't. This really made me sweat. The weight was no problem, just the intensity.

    Incline DB press:

    45s x 5 x 3

At this point I was really tired but the weight wasn't too bad.

    Weighted side bends

    (per side) 1 plate x 10 x 3

I've never done these. They were easy at first but I wanted to die at the end.

Nice pulls. Your grip strength should come back quickly. 315x5 will be a piece of cake next time.

Nice, bro, you got that 3pps on the deads back pretty quick. Were those side bends with the bar on your back or just holding a plate in your hands?

Thanks K, I probably could've done with another session before it, but I get greedy sometimes. The sidebends were like this, but with a 45 lb. plate instead of a dumbell. I'll have to switch to dumbells since I don't see how I'd hold two plates in one hand.

Lol yeah it was hard for me, but I think higher overall squat volume will do me good.

Thanks for stopping in Jorge, I don't know if it'll be a piece of cake but I plan to do it whatever it is. It think you're right about grip strength. I could probably stand to start training that some with farmers walks or plate pinches or something though.

Thanks MJay. I'd like to avoid buying straps for as long as possible, so ideally my grip strength will keep improving along with my back.

I'll tell you what. If you want the most murderous side-bends in history (slight exaggeration, but who cares), setup a bar like you're gonna do squats. Load 10-25 lbs on one side, and one side only. Make sure you have a good collar on that side or even double collar it. Get under that bar and walk it out like you are setting up for a squat. You'll feel your core freaking out from the uneven load right away. From here just begin bending to the side and then back to start position or slightly higher. I did these in my journal last Friday I believe. Absolutely insane work on the obliques and core. I was able to do 20 lbs on one side, that's it. Good stuff, give it a shot, bro.

    Squat:

    bar x 10
    95 x 5
    135 x 5
    185 x 3
    245 x 5 x 3 (+20 lbs. over last time)

Last time I said the 225 felt easier than the 185 the time before. This was not the case tonight. But I'm moving up none the less. I have a sunburn across my lower shoulders where the bar also rests so that kind of sucks.

    OH Press:

    bar x 10
    65 x 5
    85 x 5
    100 x 5 x 3 (+5 lbs. over last time)

The final set was killer but I got it done.

    Bent-Over rows:

    bar x 10
    95 x 5
    135 x 5
    140 x 5 x 2

Forgot to up the weight on the first work set. This wasn't bad, I was just tired from squats, as usual.

    BICEP CURLZ!!

    40 x 10
    60 x 5 x 3

I haven't done these since my first day back in the gym in December. Heh. I would've done shrugs normally but I'm deadlifting tomorrow so I didn't want to tire out my traps. So I figured what the hell.

    Playlist:

The Haunted - rEVOLVEr, One Kill Wonder
Comeback Kid - Wake the Dead

I've been sick with either a cold or allergies this week and still am so this was hard, but I feel like I didn't wuss out on anything. No abs or cardio as I'm pretty sure I would've thrown up.

Good stuff with the OH press and rowing as well, bro. Good to see you making way again. Also, why you got to go and get sick again? Gonna need to put you in a bubble or something Take some vitamin C and stick with a diet of heavy iron, hah! That was pretty ****in bad, I know...
