The Five Biggest Contradictions in Fitness

Itís no secret that when people contradict themselves, it has the effect of making the flaws in their actions or statements seem glaringly obvious. But what about when WE ourselves get caught contradicting ourselves by someone else?

Thank you guys. I am supposed to lift tonight but I think I broke my toe this morning. This sucks, I can barely put weight on my right foot and my pinkie toe is sticking out at a weird angle. I can kind of move it though so maybe it is just a weird sprain. I caught it barefoot on a steel safety gate this morning trying to step over it into my daughter's room. What a stupid way to hurt myself.

oh man! Thats the kind of pain where you just sit and grin there for a few seconds cause you know yo just ****ed yourself up. Hopefully its just a bad sprain and it'll be painless shortly. GL dude!

that sucks, unfortunately there's not much you can do with a broken toe. Rest it, ice it and work around it.

Ouch, that sucks killxs... this is where the tape comes in REAL handy! Splint it up or tape it to the toe next to it and be done with it!

The best trick to get your toes to stop hurting is to punch the wall. Works every time. :P

Sorry about the mishap, wish you the best - hope it does not turn out to be a major ordeal or setback.

Thanks for the comments guys. I decided to give it a few days to see how it goes and today up until about 15 minutes ago I didn't have any limp. Then I took a wrong step and the pain came shooting back. I'm icing it throughout the day and if all goes well I will try lifting tonight. I've been doing some BW squats and other stuff and as long as my form is on I don't really put much pressure on that part of my foot. We will see how it goes.

    I didn't until tonight.

    Squat

    bar x 10
    120 x 5
    190 x 3
    225 x 3 x 5

    DL

    120 x 5
    190 x 5

    OH Press

    95 x 5 x 5

I waited and waited for the pain to go down substantially in my toe but the healing has been pretty vague. It feels worst when I have to walk on it for an extended period of time. Today was no different so I finally just got some work in. I was scared to do it but I was more scared of losing the progress I've made.

I had little or no pain in my foot during squats and deadlifts. In OH press I narrowed my grip by about half an inch and the reps shot up. I am still on track with my linear progress. Overall I am pretty happy with everything, it looks like this injury will not slow me down.

Thanks fooz. Bad news though, I just weighed my bar today and it is NOT 45 lbs. It's 30 lbs! I've been 15 lbs lighter on every lift I've done since January. Ugh! I'm putting in an order for a new 45 lb. bar now.

Just ordered a 45 lb. power bar, rated to 1500 lbs. Should be the last bar I ever buy.

Yeah I feel pretty stupid. Here I thought I was making such good progress and it turns out I just started at super light weights.

That does really suck about the bar. It might have worked out been better to start lighter though, in the long run.

Thanks Coke, my head is not in the right place yet but I am still doing the work.

You might be right, thanks jbob.

    3/7/2011

    Bench
    bar x 20
    120 x 5
    155 x 5 x 5

This was pretty hard, after the first set I did not think I would get through it. 155 was a lot easier back when it was actually 140.

    Pendlay rows
    140 x 5 x 5

    Also hard.

My toe is still bothering me but I am working around it. At least my new bar will be here by Thursday. I'm very impressed with esportsonline, I got a $250ish bar on sale for $135 with free shipping. Hard to beat that.

I'm still trying to figure out what to do with squats on bench day. I was short on time and had my mind on other stuff that is stressing me out so I just skipped them tonight. Wednesday I will be back to "heavy" squatting again.

Thanks fooz. I am not depressed or anything, just a few annoying life things but they are calming down.

It's good to be back into it, just a small break but in the past those small breaks have turned into really big breaks, so it is good I am just getting back into it.

Thanks borracho. The toe is different day-to-day. Today it hurts more, yesterday it felt almost normal. Strange.

My new bar is sitting in some UPS facility, likely less than 10 miles from my house. But it won't be delivered until tomorrow. I hate that. But I think I'll wait until tomorrow for my next workout so I can break in the new bar.

    Squat
    bar x 10
    135 x 5
    185 x 3
    230 x 3 x 5

    DL
    135 x 5
    185 x 5
    205 x 5

    OH Press
    bar x 10
    100 x 5 x 5

I got all my numbers but I was irritated the entire time. I kept stepping on my toe wrong and it hurt. I will be glad when it heals completely. I wasn't completely focused on the lift because I was all concerned with not putting weight on the broken toe, so my form was bad and my lower back is sore. Whine whine whine. Anyway I got the numbers I needed so there's that at least.

My new bar seems nice. At first I thought they sent me a 6 ft bar because it was noticeably shorter than my old bar. But I measured and apparently my old bar is just really long. The new bar also does not have center knurling. I thought it would. So I will have to get some skateboard grip tape to put in the middle.

I also picked up a harness to train my neck from Elite FTS. $30 with a free t-shirt. Not bad.
