    FREQUENCY Of Refeeds.. ?

I am curious about the frequency of refeeds while dieting for fat-loss. Its very obvious with current research and science that a refeed, or hypercaloric eating period, is a good idea to restimulate your metabolism along with stimulating leptin along with other fat-burning and anabolic hormones.

I am curious what is probably the best frequency of the refeeds? Par Deus has suggested before 36 hours dieting and then 12 hours refeeding. That is a little much if you ask me. I was thinking about making 2 days out of the week refeed days. Those days I would consume around +1000 calories more than maintenance.

    Opinions?

Yes it is, in a sense.

Yup, I am really curious to see what kind of results this diet produces. It is a little similar to NHE, the diet that I have followed the past 3 months or so.

    It depends on your bf%

The lower your body fat, the more often they are needed

Yup - and if I am understanding it correctly frequency will also depend on the duration of your refeed (the shorter it is the more frequent) and how extreme/gradual your refeed is (50% need not be as frequent as 10-20% above maitanance).

This was written by Brian Haycock about refeeds:

Percent body fat, > or = 20%, Strategy No need to cycle calories as leptin is above threshold levels. Add Zinc supplement at 30mgs/day Add Vit E supplement at ~400 IU/day Glucosamine @ 1,500 mg x 3/day

Percent body fat 12 15%, Strategy Begin refeeding one day each week. Stick to high carb/low fat calories. Calories can go as high as you like (for one day). Include Zinc at 30 mgs/day Include Vit E supplement at ~400 IU/day Glucosamine @ 1,500 mg x 3/day

Percent body fat 8-10%, Strategy Begin refeeding twice per week. Do this on evenly spaced days. Include Zinc at 30 mgs/day Include Vit E supplement at ~400 IU/day Glucosamine @ 1,500 mg x 3/day

Percent body fat Below 8%, Strategy Continue to refeed twice per week, however, use only glucose polymers which are to be taken only during exercise. Do this on evenly spaced days. Include Zinc at 30 mgs/day Include Vit E supplement at ~400 IU/day Glucosamine @ 1,500 mg x 3/day

I am of the opinion that refeeds should be done more often. I know Lyle McDonald and Elzi Volk share this opinion, though they recommend longer, more moderate refeeds than I do.

Damn some confusion here. I dont know what my bf% is but I am going to guess around 15%. I am going to be refeeding TWICE per week. Not really sure if this is a bad idea or what. I am going to give it a shot and see how things go. Depending on my weight flucuation and some other things I might change this up. Well just have to see how things go from this point.

I have never seen that version thank you MWB. I appreciate it.

monstar perhaps it would be best to pick a starting point, like what par recommends and experimenting from there. You should pich a period and then do it for 3-4 weeks then adjust a parameter. chart your weight loss/gain and see what is working the best for YOU and YOUR goals. You will learn a great deal about your body this way as well

    the doc-
Thanks for the advice man I appreciate it. Yeah I have learned how ridiculous I have been acting, changing things so often not giving my body a chance to adapt. I am going to go with 2 refeed days per week for around a month. If I like the results obviously Ill stick with it, if not Ill change things up.
