Music and lifting - does it help you keep it going?

I just started listening to my mp3 player while lifting and found that it helps on certain lifts. On lifts such as squats, bench press and deadlifts, it certainly helps. It keeps you distracted and lets you complete your sets better.

What do you guys feel about music and lifting.

Doesn't make much difference to me. I lift heavy listening to Pantera and I lift just as heavy when the gym radio plays Kelly Clarkson..

It helps me get pumped up thats for sure. I'll crank up something heavy, Marilyn Manson, Rage Against the Machine, Static X, etc. As my lifts get heavier, I turn the music up louder.

Wait. You listen to an MP3 player when you lift?

    I've never thought of that.

I might try that, maybe with some metal. Thanks for the idea.
    Squats work better than supplements.
"You know, if I thought like that, I'd never put more than one plate on the bar for anything, I'd never use bands or chains, I'd never squat to parallel or below, and I'd never let out the slightest grunt when I lift. At some point in your lifting career (assuming you're planning on getting reasonably strong and big), you're going to have to accept that most people think you are some kind of freak." -Sensei

I find my focus drifts when slow crappy music is on so hard and loud always helps.

I would be fine without it, but the dancy top 40 remix crap that my gym plays is unbearable. I use my mp3 player because I like it, and to drown out the garbage. If the whole gym could have white noise machines or giant fans going all the time that'd probably be best for me.

i realized that the mp3 player does help, but i need to close my eyes since my beat ass mcgym is 1 huge room. and there is a mirror in front of the squat rack, so i see EVERYONE behind me. sometimes it motivates me tho, progress over the kid on preacher with someone helping sitting 10ft from me

I didn't know mp3 players existed..?? I didn't think there was a way for me to listen to all of the music I learned about from 613 different music threads on WBB? Hmmm... I gotta buy one of these "mp3 players."

    I found that when I didn't lift with a Mp3 player I was distracted a lot.

Plus the music sometimes really pumped me up so I did **** that otherwise i'd of given up on. It gives you the realization that you can do it.

Thats why some thigns are better left unexplained.

My buddy has the same issue, hes a big huge music guy. Can't listen to a song without pointing out all the minor flaws in the soundtrack etc. The beats which are off or how this or that isn't just right.
