The Five Biggest Contradictions in Fitness

Itís no secret that when people contradict themselves, it has the effect of making the flaws in their actions or statements seem glaringly obvious. But what about when WE ourselves get caught contradicting ourselves by someone else?

You would think I would the drill by now. I actually up the preset to 275 since I was going for 325 to make it a bit closer, but I'll lower back down. One rep would be better.

On the chins, I agree. If they increase to next outing then it will be time to add weight. I'm still planning to be in the 5-8 rep range, however, I don't mind dropping to 4.

And yes, I do love it when all of my body is sore. Just as one part is easing off, another part starts too me that is sweet!

inspiringPecs: Drive was safe, but unfortunately I didn't get to nap.

Mik: Nope I didn't make to Montana's. I had to rush back to Pickering and help my father In-law with his taxes, then my co-worker and I went out for dinner there. No wenches, however, we did delude ourselves into think this hot lady manager of the place was checking us out as we left.

    • This was a mid afternoon session and unfortunately fairly short. I needed to get home, do some stuff, pick up daughter and drop a few pounds of hair. So, I skipped calves today. I'm also finding that although my weights are starting to move up, I am physically done faster. My endurance just isn't there to do 24+ sets.

      Squats: 94x4, 135x3, 205x9, 225x4, 205x5
      _________________ --[[----------]]-- ________________

Food plus sleep plus mid afternoon workout all worked together to make these ****ing fantastic. Could also have been the low reps on the warmup. Anyway, my plan was to do 205 but after I got 9 solid reps, I thought why not try the 225 lbs. The first rep was not a low as I would have liked but the other three were. On the last one I was just starting to roll forward a bit.

      45 Degree Leg Press: 5ppsx9, 5pps+10x6, 5ppsx6 -> 5 -> 4 -> 5 -> 6

My legs just didn't want to stop here. Previous best was 5ppsx6 and those seemed to be a struggle today's 9 reps felt great. Time to move up on these next week.

Stiff Legged Dead Lifts: 225x5, 4

Nothing special here but I did find these really rough on the lower back this time. I decided that 2 sets was enough because of that.

Kneeling Plate loaded Leg Curls: 80x8/8, 9/7

After two sets I was done and it was time to get home. These were up 10 lbs from last week. I suspect I can get them higher as I get use to the exercise.
    Comments:

I'm finally legally able to drive today. I recently found out what happens when you don't pay those retched speeding tickets. Here in Ontario, they give you one notice, then bam - your license is suspended! For a variety of reasons, I hadn't paid a ticket from the end of Feb. And so last Thrusday I found out the my license was suspended when this notice came in the mail. What a pain. Lessoned learned - keep the ticket making the rounds in the courts instead of ignoring them.

    Back Pics - Yet again

Now that I'm officially gaining weight it seems time to post pics once again. Of course I seem to have many to choose from, however, only a very select few will get posted.

First up are two back pics. One from Feb when I had reached my lowest weight. I was 159 in this picture. Of course, it being Feb and I being in Canada you can guess that there is a lot of blinding whiteness in the picture.

Here is a back pic from last week with some weight gain. The pose is slightly different so it maybe tough to see if there is really any changes in two months.

It's hard to tell as the lighting is different and in the first pic your arms are further forward (and therefore your lats aren't flared as much) than in the 2nd, but it looks like you've made some nice improvement.

Your obliques/lower back even look a bit leaner in the 2nd pic.

    Great job.

We tend to think of Sisyphus as a tragic hero, condemned by the gods to shoulder his rock sweatily up the mountain, and again up the mountain, forever. The truth is that Sisyphus is in love with the rock. He cherishes every roughness and every ounce of it. He talks to it, sings to it. It has become the mysterious Other. He even dreams of it as he sleepwalks upward. Life is unimaginable without it, looming always above him like a huge gray moon. He doesnít realize that at any moment he is permitted to step aside, let the rock hurtle to the bottom, and go home.

Here's what I see when comparing the 2 side by side:

lats are definitely thicker... a little wider
    bicep peaks are higher
    front delts have exploded

Quite a bit of progress in just 2 months.

Orange357: Mitch, I'm glad you think so. Squats were ace yesterday. Let me know how yours were today.

Blood&Iron: Yeah, clearly I'm not consistent with my posing yet. Leaner in the second pic, eh. I was about 165 in that one.

    Galileo:

    Carolina: Thanks.

HomeYield: Thanks, it must be the deadlifts. I really haven't been working the delts much.

Mik: lol, I don't think my back looks that good in person so it always amazes me how hi shows up in the pictures. As for Montana's, nope, twasn't me. Ah, I missed the wrenches. I will be back up there again next week. Soooooooo........

And now, finally a leg picture. I make no claims except that they were coming in better a few weeks ago but now they seem less defined. I have taken about 20 pics and have yet to find one that I really like and even with this one the quality sucks. yada yada yada.

    Anyway, 21.5" of rookie legs!

Nice pics, rookie...good work. Looks like definite progress to me

And lighting makes a BIG difference in pics. A somewhat subdued overhead light highlights definition by creating more shadows...

Budiak: I know it's hard to believe that those piston pumping shafts of steel are less then 22". But I keep measuring and they just never change. As for the Dogpile, you snooze you lose.

IceRgrrl: Yeah, I keep think about trying out he different lighting and one of these days, I'll get it set up right. The leg picture was just a quick shot. Thanks for the compliments.

Mik: Well the bike has had it's day but now it's just a for looks. I keep all the exercise equipment in the guest bed room so that people will think I work out even when they can't see the results. Thanks for the props on the leg shot.
