ADFPF State Deadlift Meet - I walked out with an American record

So I just got home from the meet. It went pretty well.

I initially weighed in at 217, but because I had a chance at hitting a record in the 242's (the 220 record is a lot higher for junior 20-23 surprisingly), I drank a ton of water and re-weighed at 221.

    Lifts:
1st attempt: 365, easy as hell, 3 white lights
2nd attempt: 405, easy as hell, 3 white lights
3rd attempt: 430, smoke show, 3 white lights
4th attempt (because it was american record): 450, miss, 1 white light - I thought I nailed it but apparently I paused on the way up and the bar sunk 1/2 inch before I locked it out, so they didn't count it, but I'm going to count it for my records

Now I know you guys are thinking my lift is a joke, but I was competing 100% raw (no belt or wraps) and the 430 was good enough for an American record in the Raw division / Junior (age 20-23).

I'm pretty excited.. I want to do the USAPL push-pull meet next month! I gotta say today was a huge PR for me and I couldn't have done it without you guys..

And one thing that Chris Mason is going to love..

I wore my AtLargeNutrition shirt and they are submitting some pictures of the meet / article to Powerlifting USA which will probably come out in July / August. That means, more free advertising for ALN!

Congratulations on the record but I don't see how you're going to count a lift that you didn't get?

For myself, in terms of calculating the 80% of 1RM for workouts I will count it. As far as the record is concerned, the 430 is the official one. And the reason I'm counting the 450 for myself is because the judging was controversial. Most spectators thought I got it for sure, and I definitely thought so to. In the gym, you would count a lift that you paused for a second on coming up..

Since I compete, the only thing that matters is what's good in competition. I've gotten quite a bit more in training but until it happens on the platform, for me at least, it doesn't count. Even if somebody asks, I always give my competition PR's. Personal preference though.

Regardless, congratulations on the record and the meet!

    Good stuff, man!

Do you happen to know what the ADFPF record is in Open 198 or 220? I'm wondering if I'd be close.

They just started doing single event meets, so the record books are being written with every meet haha.

Here are some single event records (not full powerlifting):

    Open 198:
    Raw: Squat - 363; Bench - 352; Deadlift - 649
    Equipped: Squat - 462; Bench - 380; Deadlift - 550

    Open 220:
    Raw: Squat - 396; Bench - 412; Deadlift - 539
    Equipped: Squat - 544; Bench - 532; Deadlift - 605

You can find more records (including the full powerlifting ones) here:

I love that the 198 raw dead is higher than the equipped 220 dead.

    Congrats on the lifts!!
