The Five Biggest Contradictions in Fitness

Itís no secret that when people contradict themselves, it has the effect of making the flaws in their actions or statements seem glaringly obvious. But what about when WE ourselves get caught contradicting ourselves by someone else?

    135 x 5
    205 x 3
    255 x 2
    295 x 1
    305 x 1
    320 x 1 +5 pr
    340 miss

My form is getting a bit better... 305 was sooooo much easier.. 320 wasn't that hard aswell, i'm still throwing my ass up in the air a bit.. which is a pain. Gotta keep workin' at it.

I've skimmed through your journal and you have some serious strength for your age. I saw the videos of you deadlifting on the 2nd page and I'd highly recommend you check out the videos of the elitefts guys pulling on youtube. Those will be your best resources for any powerlifting lift. When pulling with a conventional stance, you don't want to drag the bar against your shins. Keep it a couple of inches infront of you so when you pull, you want to, essentially, be pulling in a straight line. The biggest thing I saw is you're pretty much doing a SLDL - You're straightening your legs, then pulling instead of doing both in one fluid motion. I'd take a full session next time you deadlift, and just pull with 135 lbs and tape them all. In between your sets, review your form and look at what you can adjust. Your progress has been great so far, though. You have a lot of potential! Good luck.

Dirk Pitt, CoCoa, Indifference: Thanks alot guys , Indifference, those 28 oz steaks rock

    Keith
: Thanks man, your a strong dude yourself, i've seen your bench presses. Slowly but surely i'll get this deadlift form down. Your advice is helping me think about my form, thanks man.

So tomorrow will be bench day... a kid in my class is "challenging" me on the 185 press, for most reps. I plan on warming up bar 10 reps, 135 5 reps then going straight to it. I hope to hit about 5 reps... supposively he claims he does 5+... but i doubt it ..

    205 x 2
    165 x 5

Skull crushers, pull downs, dips, 2 sets of 95 lb bb curls.

I don't understand how i can do 185 3 times, but 205 twice? I should be able to do at least 4 or 5, of 185. It's not a big deal... next wednesday, gunna change it up a bit, add chest flys and what not.

Ran about a mile... it was hot..

Were you warmed up enough on 185? For me it usually takes 2-3 sets before I am really warmed up on bench, my second set is usually the hardest for me, so you might try warming up more if you want to do lots of reps at 185.

I agree with dirk. I find if I want to do volume (usually never im fat and lazy) I have to do a lot of warming up or 3-5 is where things get heavy. I hear you on the hot part man, I swear just walking around down here right now is like swimming, theres so much water in the air im sure someone could drown if they werent careful. Solid day bro.

Just cruisin your journal here, bro. Lookin huge for 15, damn. I was about 115 lbs at your age and the same height, lol. Can you believe that ****? Anyway, Deads are looking solid and I couldn't help but laugh pretty heartily at some of your comments, especially about ****tin the pants while Squatting and DLing, lol. Gotta make sure you're empty before the big lifts, dude. I don't think your DL form looks all that different from mine actually. If you bring your ass up fast, then that's just the way you do it. Don't sweat it too much, but dude, definitely toss those gloves in the trash and get some chalk. They will just hold you back. As far as the bench goes, just take it a little slower for sure. Do a progression something like 45, 95, 145, 165, 185, 205, etc. A 50 lb leap from 135 to 185 is pretty significant if your body is not prepared.

Dirk, Indifference: Even when i warm up, i can only do a max of 185 x 3, that's the most i've ever done.. it's wierd.. maybe i'll add in a set of 165 before hand and see how it goes.

Kiaran: Thanks a lot man, you were probably just like my bro, an inch taller then me but weighs like 125 lbs. And yeah, i'm not using those gloves anymore, gotta get the grip up. Anything over 3 reps for me, is like doing damn cardio. So that could be my problem.

    jbrin0tk: Thanks man!

Do you guys think that it's unrealistic to get my deadlift up to 405, in three weeks? 320, wasn't really that hard...340 i got off the ground half way...

Unless your form is really holding you back, then I dont think itll happen man. Id say 3 months with some strong ass posterior work *COULD* happen, but not 3 weeks. But that doesnt mean you shouldnt bust your ass and try!

from 320 to 405 in three weeks? I doubt it. Six to eight weeks is a little more possible, but it all depends on how fast you're adapting. At your age with your hormones, I suppose anything is possible. Give it a shot, man. I'd say try 345 this week, 375 next week and 405 the week after if it's really gonna happen. Better be getting a lot of rest too.

Yeah, I think 405 is unrealistic in 3 weeks from 320. That's like a 30 lb PR each week until then. Don't get so caught up in pulling "4 plates". Just shoot for consistent PR's each week.

    Weight: 173.5 (It's the water)

    Squats:
    135 x 10
    225 x 8
    315 x 5 -- Light, I always groan though.. No Belt.
405 x 0 - Was pretty heavy, not gunna lie... went down but then arched forward... not a good deal. After letting the spotter's do their job, i saw all these white dots. I assumed it was from the lack of oxygen to my brain. Gotta' breathe!

Leg press, 3 pps, 4 pps 10 reps each
Set of abs, w/ 25 lbs
Ran... pretty hot again -- cardio sux!

Football season is coming along soon, I really wanna start center for our team.. yeah Varsity. I've got some pushing power allright, harder then the 250+ guys. I think if i get to 180, and bust my ass, there can be a decent chance. If not i'll just start JV, no biggie.

PS: I didn't **** today.. did that business in the morning!

315x5 to 405x1 is a huge jump. I'd throw in 365x3 before going for 405. Ever done 20 reppers with your 5-10 rep max? You'll see white dots at about the 15th rep and it happens everytime! Great strength, man. Keep it up.

Damn strong legs, bro. I give you props on attempting the 405. That thing is a load. Definitely ramp the weight up a little slower next time and you'll probably nail it. Cool deal with trying to play center for your Varsity team as well. Centers are beastly; can't imagine playing that position.

CoCoa, Keith, Kiaran: Thanks for the support after every session. Next week, if i'm not doing ATF, i'll try and hit 2 or 3 365 squats, before attempting 405. Time to go for a +25 PR for my deadlift on Monday! Let's do it babehhhhhhhh!!!
