The Five Biggest Contradictions in Fitness

Itís no secret that when people contradict themselves, it has the effect of making the flaws in their actions or statements seem glaringly obvious. But what about when WE ourselves get caught contradicting ourselves by someone else?

Fitness Competition in Wilmington NC on May 17th

Just wanted to let everyone here know that we'll be having a fitness competition on May 17th at my gym. We are within 3 miles from Wrightsville Beach (very nice!) and it would be a great place to spend a weekend. I would love to see a couple strongman/powerlifting/Olympic Lifting types come out.

We're expecting a really good turnout with, apparently, some people coming from all over the country.

    Here's the events:

#1) Strength: 1 rep max in Overhead Squat, Overhead Press, and Deadlift
#2) "Metabolic Conditioning:" One of the named CrossFit workouts (drawn out of a hat)
#3) Obstacle Course: Running, sandbag carries/throws, some kind of wannabe Atlas Stone, Farmer's walks ... all combined into one

$15 entry fee. First and second place win prizes.

Shoot me a PM or reply if you're interested. I think Chubrock is going to be too much of a pussy to compete, but I'll be doing it and I'd love to some some WBB representation.

Let's not forget that you complain more than any two people at CFW.

Fuck, fight, or hold the light.

    And I'm still competing!

I am guessing that you'll get a rank after each event (i.e. #2 in lifts, #32 in metcon, #17 in obstacle course) and then you'll average the 3 and get your overall rank.

There definitely won't be weight classes, but it's possible that there will be something like a Wilk's score used to rank the lifts. That said, my personal stance is that there shouldn't be. If you are 140 lbs you have a huge advantage on any bodyweight event (push-ups, running, pull-ups, etc), and so it's unfair to offset the lifts if you're not offsetting everything else. Also, if you aren't big enough to be competitive in a fitness competition, then apparently your size is holding you back from being fit. So get bigger.

Dude, awesome! You should definitely come. At the very least, participate in the competition. Start working on Overhead Squats now and you should do very well (once you train it for a couple weeks you should be able to handle a respectable amount of weight).

I'm not sure what the deal will be if you only want to come once a week, but the owners are always around, and you can talk to them about it. Rates are $50/m without any contract, typically. At the absolute most, you would pay your choice of $50/m or $10/session, but I'm guessing you can talk them into bringing the prices down a little bit.

Oh come on. This isn't exactly my specialty, either. There are about 8 "main" lifts that I would vastly prefer to shoulder press and overhead squat. You've been doing metcons for awhile now. Man up and see what you can do outside of 3 movements.

Haha nope. I'll stick with my three boring lifts.
