The Five Biggest Contradictions in Fitness

It’s no secret that when people contradict themselves, it has the effect of making the flaws in their actions or statements seem glaringly obvious. But what about when WE ourselves get caught contradicting ourselves by someone else?

db and bb bench in same workout?

i usually do a 205x7, a 205x5 then 235x 3 and then switch to dumbells because of a lack of spotter. is there anything wrong with this?

i guess it depends on your goals. if you dont mind not knowing you 1RM for bench then it is fine.

i mean, ill max when i can get a spotter, but 8/10 times, i dont have a spot. im just wondering if this is really going to hinder my bench press progress or not.

i think its better than nothing. but a spotter truly helps if you want to up your bb bench to full potential. db bench is an assisted movement for the bb bench and should not be replaced but supplemented.

I would just stick with the dbs. No sense to do 3 sets of barbell bench not to failure, then slide over to dbs.

So you are advocating training to failure on every set?

I setup a flat bench in a squat rack, using the pins as a safety catch. There happens to be a hole that lines up perfectly height wise for me....if my back is flat the bar wont touch my chest, but arched I can touch the bar to it. I love benching this way if there is not a spotter around... of course I'm assuming you have access to a rack..

I go to pretty much failure on every set. I either struggle like hell with the last rep, or have a spotter touch it up. Once I need a spotted to touch, the set is over.

Well I obviously can't argue with your results, but that was my opinion and the way I workout. To each his own. As we all no, there is not one correct way to do everything.

Excellent dude, that was my point in posting...

Positive failure has proven to be best for me. Of course I have age related issues to deal with too (joints).
