The Five Biggest Contradictions in Fitness

Its no secret that when people contradict themselves, it has the effect of making the flaws in their actions or statements seem glaringly obvious. But what about when WE ourselves get caught contradicting ourselves by someone else?

missed bench weight 3rd week 5x5

    went like this...

    120x5
    140x5
    155x5
    175x5
195x3, was supposed to be 5
tried closer grip and got 195x1

should i try the same again next week or should i just continue the program and try the higher weight next week?

Reach down between your legs and find a pair of balls. That's what it takes to lift big weights. Genetics is the weak man's excuse for why he sucks at life. Don't be that guy - RhodeHouse

You're probably selling yourself short by doing an intermediate program as a novice, but yes, repeat the weight next week.

yes you are a novice, but if you missed the weight by 2 reps, sure go ahead and try it next week, but whats after that, you're going to try and hit 200x5? I'd stick with 5 sets of 5 at 185

    Failing aty the third week?

Why the **** are people so incapable of dropping their ego enough for this ****ing program to work!

****, the weights calculated for your first 4 weeks ont he spread sheet are even marked a little low just to ensure you get used to the program and dont fail. Stay on the same weight, or drop some and do this program properly.
Being a strong teenager means nothing.

My wrists hurt, but some people don't have wrists to be sore. My knees have tendinitis, but some people don't have legs to get tendinitis in. I seem to be going backwards with training, yet some people can't even walk let alone lift 400 pounds on a daily basis.

Dust out the vagina, and keep on lifting.

so last friday you actually got the 195x3 as well right? cuz that's how bill starr is supposed to work, on friday you do 3 reps of the weight that you will hit the next monday for 5 on the last set, assuming this was done monday. so this friday, try and finish this weeks workout, if you hit the last set for 3 reps, then try to move on the following monday. i hope you understand what i'm trying to say. i'm having a hard time interpreting it as i read it to myself.

well anyways, i just realized that today IS monday, so it is obviously your monday workout. so this means you must have done 195x3 on your last bench set last week friday. so, what you should do is try to finish this week's bench (you will probably have to do ~200x3 for your last set on friday) and if you complete fridays top 3 rep set, then go ahead and try for 200(or whatever it is)x5 the following monday. maybe that was more clear

I never liked these 5x5s where you use all different weights, they never worked for me. I use the same weight and try to get 5 reps in all 5 sets. If I can't I try again next week until I do. I went from struggling with 195 5x5 to repping 225 5x5.
    22 - 5'10@236lbs!
    Bench - 325 (old)
    Squat - 455x2 (old)
    Deadlift - 500(old)

    Total: 1280lbs 100% raw

The key to my exercise program is this one simple truth: I hate my body.

It's not that uncommon for a raw lifter. My best raw squat was 600 and raw dl was 705.

Yep. I think the more appropriate question is "Why is your squat lower than your BP?"
