The Five Biggest Contradictions in Fitness

It’s no secret that when people contradict themselves, it has the effect of making the flaws in their actions or statements seem glaringly obvious. But what about when WE ourselves get caught contradicting ourselves by someone else?

Question about Rippetoe's routine - RE: Squats

I searched and there was just way too many threads about squats..

Is it safe to do squats 3x a week? I'm wondering if my legs get enough recovery in a day...
Should I decrease the squat intensity for each workout day?

    It's safe.

Increase the amount you are squatting every workout.

Squatting 3 times a week can have some terrible side effects that you must watch out for. You will notice that you start to get freakishly big and strong, much bigger and stronger then you ever were back when you used to do "body part splits".

I just wanted to warn you of these consequences that result in heavy squatting 3 times a week.

that's not how Starting Strength works. Add weight to the bar every workout, which is 3x per week.

For what it's worth I squatted 3x a week for about 4-5 months and developed patellofemoral pain syndrome, which basically sidelined me from all squats for at least 1 month.

What do you mean? I said yes to squatting 3 x's per week. No to decreasing intensity, which means you should be doing more each time. One of us is confused.

It's a novice program that will get you ramped up for more, harder stuff in the future. Follow what it says.

Be careful of criticizing "body part splits". Everyone is different and require/respond to different things. I'm currently doing a "body part split" with good results and STILL making gains after 3 months of it.
    Give chalk a chance.

only negative side effect would be stretch marks on the ass hips and thighs. wear them proudly.

Cool RST. You did have me re-think my answer for a second. I thought maybe he asked if he should increase intensity instead of decrease when you first posted. Either way, looks like the OP is on his way to some gains.
