The Five Biggest Contradictions in Fitness

Its no secret that when people contradict themselves, it has the effect of making the flaws in their actions or statements seem glaringly obvious. But what about when WE ourselves get caught contradicting ourselves by someone else?

    Coffee Protein

I dont post on here often but I figured I would share this little secret recipe of mine with all of you. I am finishing college here in a week and just wanted to dedicate my early morning success to this beverage. Its essentially an all Costco ingredient based recipe. Starting with their dark coffee in the huge can and ending with there EAS 10lb vanilla whey protein. Its basically just a brewed cup of coffee with nothing added to it but one heaping scoop of the vanilla whey. It comes out tasting like a vanilla latte.

Damn, that's a good idea. Does the caffeine still have an effect even with the added whey?

Good question. I'd also wonder if the protein loses any effect when added to heat like that? Regardless, I'll be trying this when my (already-ordered) Nitrean vanilla gets here this week.
    I know you're half-crazy, but I wish you'd go all the way.

Why would the protein lose effect with heat?

Isn't this the purpose of stomach acid? to denature proteins to allow clevage to amino acids by enzymes.

IMO as long as the heat isnt suffient to cause oxidation it should be fine.

Yeah, I don't think the heat from the coffee would be enough to destroy the protein. I don't know jack though.

Not this denatured garbage again! Why do you cook meat then?? Heat has no effect on the usefulness of the protein. It can deactivate the artificial sweeteners (aspartame) in the whey powder, leaving it bland tasting.

Why wouldn't you just put it in a shaker bottle?

Hot water will not effect the primary structure of the protein, which is the sequence of amino acids.

try mixing the protein with a little water...tbsp or so prior to adding to coffee, helps keep the clumping down....

I live in L.A.... I really only drink hot coffee about one month out of the year. The rest of the year I do this... Brew a pot of nice strong coffee and throw it in the fridge overnight. Now you will have nice ICE cold coffee for your shakes. A pot might even last you all week. I usually use about a 3 to 1 coffee/water mix. It even tastes pretty good with a banana blended in. On those really hot days I'll make the shake and throw it in a glass in the freezer for ten minutes for a semi-frozen protein mocha shake!

    5 Ice Cubes
    1 - 1.5 Scoops Whey protein
    1/2 C oats

    or

    1 cup water
    2 tb coffee grinds
    ice cubes
    2 scoops chocolate whey

    I ended up trying:

    1 cup water
1 teaspoon coffee grind (tonight I'll go for 1.5 teaspoons)
    5 ice cubes
    2 scoops chocolate whey

throw it in the blender and then pour into shaker cup and chugged it. Tasted like a mocha frappe. You could see the coffee grinds still, but I drank the shake so fast the texture didn't matter.

Then I had one of my best squat sessions in a LONG time. Maybe from the addition of a pre-workout shake, maybe the addition of caffeine. Ahh **** it, the placebo was nice.
