    question about starting strength

well I am going to start the "starting strength" routine like many on this forum have suggested.

My only question is, for exercises such as the military press and bench...is a barbell nessasary? I do not usually have access to a spotter and I was wondering if doing standing military press with db would be just as good?

I can see the definite downfall as it would be hard to progress every workout with out a barbell...

I think you've answered your own question there, SC . One of the focal points of the Starting Strength is to progress with more weight as each week goes by. Really, try to get a barbell for that program. Do you have a gym membership?

IF you go to a gym at your school or in your area normally someone will be willing to spot you.

Bench in a power rack. And I don't see why you would need a spotter for Military Press.
