Is this one the signs of the Apocalypse

You guys probably won't believe me, I barely believe it myself and I was there.

I saw a Trainer teaching someone how to do ...... Deadlifts

And when he was demonstrating them he was do them with pretty good form too.

The world is coming to an end.

You figure that certified trainers would focus on these lifts, yet I see very few people in the gyms doing compounds (minus bench press) let alone a trainer spotting someone in a compound lift. Why is that? And again why would the trainers promote the use of the smith machine canceling out all use in the stabilizers. I guess that's the question that plagues the lifting community.

Personally I think that trainers often work with a fear of potential lawsuits in their minds. And thus to make their own lives easier they may not always give the most beneficial or productive advice even if they are endowed with the knowledge. I'm not a trainer myself but just a possible explanation..

Personal trainers are typically trained at the gym they work at, and all they have to do is know CPR and how to use all the machines. Most of them don't have a clue on real training. It's pretty sad.

My school is enforcing squats and deadlifts as the testing this year, instead of bench and flexed arm hang. I'm pretty happy.

I was at the gym yesterday and I too saw something AMAZING:

My gym has 3 squat racks and they were all occupied by SQUATTERS. I couldn't believe my eyes.

That is amazing. There is only one other guy that uses the squat rack besides me.......for squats. There is one guy that uses it to curl the bar plus a 5 pounder on each side. He grunts alot and clangs the weights. I guess he thinks he deserves some attention for this (?!?).
The last time, I asked him when he'd be done, so I could use it for it's actual purpose - squats. He finished up, left and has not been back since. Did I offend?

Actually for Trainers I believe the gym might be pushing them to concentrate their programs on using the machines. After all it would be quite a waste of money if all these people were doing squats and deadlifts, leaving all these expensive machines sitting unused.

Of course I might just be a conspiracy theory nut.

Then again, once the members money is in the gyms hands I'm sure they really couldn't care less if they sat at the juice bar all day.

Actually they'd be ok with you never stepping in the door - saves money on upkeep of the equipment. Another reason why true lifters are frowned upon in most gyms. I've bent my share of commercial gym bars and i'm sure they don't like somone doing that and actually *gasp* getting stronger
