The Five Biggest Contradictions in Fitness

Itís no secret that when people contradict themselves, it has the effect of making the flaws in their actions or statements seem glaringly obvious. But what about when WE ourselves get caught contradicting ourselves by someone else?

Chicago is a little far for me. I live in Salt Lake City, UT so the Idaho meet is close by for me, which is why I am doing a national competition for my first meet -- it was the only meet nearby. I probably wont do many raw competitions as the heavy lifting is killer on my joints. As soon as I figure out how much I can spend and what I want to get I will be getting some equipment and then hopefully competing at a USPF state meet in the end of May (if I can learn the gear fast enough).

    185 + ... x 10
    225 + ... x 5
    275 + ... x 3
    225 + ... x 10

    Standing Military Press (5/3/1)

    135 x 10

    Mini Band Pull-aparts

Done. I really liked the JM's with the SSB, just have to put a pillow on my chest so the handles don't stab me in the ribs. I should get my regularly scheduled training back on track next week.

    225 x 5
    275 x 3
    315 x 1
    335 x 1
    355 x 1
    315 x 3
    315 x 4

    GM's
    135 x 5
    185 x 5
    225 x 5
    135 x 10 <--- feet together

    Leg Curls

    Standing Pulldown Abs
    100 x 10
    110 x 10
    120 x 6 ---> drop set - 90 x 10

Done. Back to the grind. I'm not sure if it was the Free Squats or GM's with the SSB that kicked my ass, but I've literally been limping around since Saturday morning. My hams and glutes have been fried; I didn't even do that much Friday and the DOMS I still have is unreal.

No... not at all, lol. I should've taken the entire week off, but I was getting bored and antsy. After the two Push/Pulls I've done, I was fine and good to go on Monday. This full meet really took a lot out of me.

i know what you mean, i want to hit the gym bad...but I'm forcing myself to take at least one full week off. I was taught that you should take at least 2 weeks off to fully recover your CNS.

That's a good plan. Take your time, rest up and reload, and then get back at it. Two weeks completely off would probably be a bit too much for me, I would go nuts.

ME Squat/Bench are usually about 45 minutes to an hour, my deadlift/upper back days are usually a half hour to 45min, and DE Squat/Bench probably over an hour (I do these two at home). I usually train on my lunch break from work so I try to get done in under an hour if possible.

Thanks man. Yeah I bought the 5/3/1 book just to see what it was about and get some ideas for my own training. I'm just using the 5/3/1 progression for the OHP right now and seeing if I can't get it over 225 in a few months.

    Monday 3/30 - ME Squat

SSB Box Squats (13" box, raw)
    155 + 60lbs of chain x 5
    205 + ... x 5
    245 + ... x 5
    295 + ... x 3
    335 + ... x 1
    355 + ... x 1
    385 + ... x 1
    355 + ... x 1
    335 + ... x 1

Chain Suspended GM's w/ SSB (36" off ground)
    155 x 5
    205 x 5
    245 x 5
    265 x 3
    295 x 3

    Reverse Hyper
    160 x 10
    250 x 10
    340 x 10
    340 x 10

    Standing Pulldown Abs
    Green band x 20 x 2 sets

Done. Chain suspended GM's feel 10x's better with a SSB vs a regular bar. The setup is much easier and feels like it hits my hams and mid-back better.

i just did chain suspended GM's tonight as well, the setup is very awkward with a straight bar, I've got to save up for SSB.

    Tuesday 3/31 - ME Bench

2-Board Bench (thumbs from smooth grip)
    135 x 5
    185 x 5
    225 x 5
    275 x 3
    315 x 1
    365 x 1
    375 x 1 (+10lb PR)
    365 x 1
    315 x 3
    315 x 3

    Incline DB Bench
    80's x 10
    90's x 10
    100's x 10

Rolling DB Ext - SS - w/ Dips
    55's x 12 -ss- BW x 10
    55's x 10 -ss- BW x 8
    55's x 10 -ss- BW x 8

    Face Pulls
    100 x 12
    110 x 12
    120 x 12
    130 x 12

Done. Trying to mix it up with the assistance work a little bit. I haven't done incline DB bench in years, felt okay. I didn't exactly work-up in weight optimally for the ME sets, but I haven't hit a PR in bench in a while so I was determined to get that 375; it was definitely a max effort lift.
