The Five Biggest Contradictions in Fitness

Itís no secret that when people contradict themselves, it has the effect of making the flaws in their actions or statements seem glaringly obvious. But what about when WE ourselves get caught contradicting ourselves by someone else?

    Friday 12/18 - DE Squat

DE Squat - 13" Box Squats
    135 + 105lbs of chain x 5
    185 + 105lbs of chain x 2
    225 + 105lbs of chain x 2
    275 + 105lbs of chain x 2
    315 + 105lbs of chain x 2 x 10 sets --> add briefs

    Speed Pulls
    315 x 2 x 3 sets (sumo)
    315 x 2 x 3 sets (conventional)

    GHRs (mini band around neck)
    BW + MB x 12 x 3 sets

    Standing Pulldown Abs
    3 sets of 10

    Light Band Leg Curls
    LB x 15 x 3 sets per leg

Done. Speed felt great today, and getting back into the briefs felt natural. After hearing all the great things about the Overkill shirt, I placed my order for one today. It'll be nice to have a custom fit shirt, instead of the stock Katana that never quite fit right. This should be fun...

Great choice going with the overkill. Training with Jon Rock and seeing what he's doing with it already convinced me that ill be getting one too. Did you go all double or triple in the sleeves?

Yeah it's definitely great, I just paid off my credit card after paying all that stuff off lol. I heard about that storm slamming the east coast. The Bears game got pushed back to 3:30 b/c they needed more time to prep the field in Baltimore. Not that it matters, they can cancel it for all I care.

I hope so man, I don't know what's up with my right arm, the lockout is a little weaker on that side. I think it has to do with the shoulder injury I had a few months back.

Thanks man. I usually do my DE Squat/Bench days at home, and then the other days are mostly in a commercial gym by my work.

    Monday 12/21 - ME Squat

    Front Squats
    135 x 5
    225 x 5
    275 x 3
    315 x 3
    335 x 1
    365 x 1
    385 x 1
    410 x miss
    315 x 3

    Close-stance GMs
    135 x 10
    185 x 5
    225 x 5

GHR Situps (w/ 25lb plate at forehead)
    3 sets of 10

GHRs (w/ mini band around neck)
    3 sets of 12

45-Degree Back Raise (w/ Light Band around neck) -SuperSet- Reverse Hypers
    BW + LB x 10 -SS- 210 x 15
    BW + LB x 10 - SS - 300 x 10

Done. I went for a 5lb PR on the fronts today and missed; everything felt super heavy for some reason. The supersets at the end really fried my back, I'm going to need to not move for a while lol.

I saw the movie Avatar last night. That was the first time seeing a 3-D movie, and it was pretty damn cool. I was blown away just seeing the previews of Harry Potter in 3-D, and the movie itself was a cool experience. I'd pay good money if I could watch sports and movies in 3-D at home, that would be awesome.

Too bad on 410 miss Pete. Didnt you smash a 20-30lb PR on fronts recently? Still, you will smoke it next time.

Pete, have you any other tips for increasing the speed off the chest for bench? aside from Lat work. I appreciate the input you left re DE bench.

watch sports and movies in 3-D at home, that would be awesome.
No doubt its on its way Pete.

Yeah I hit 405 each of the last two times I did fronts, the first time was a 20lb PR I think.

As far as speed off the chest, aside from lat work and DE work, I really liked high rep DB bench (in the 15-20 rep range) and standing military as assistance exercises. Another thing is to think "fast down, fast up"; try lowering the bar faster and see if that doesn't improve your reversal strength.

    Tuesday 12/22 - ME Bench

    2-Board Bench (thumbs from smooth)
    135 x 5
    185 x 5
    225 x 5
    275 x 5
    315 x 5
    335 x 3
    365 x 1
    385 x 1
405 x just missed (couldn't lock out right arm again)
Add single-ply Katana - (index fingers on rings)
    455 x 1
    475 x 2
    500 x 1
    520 x miss/busted lip

    Triceps Ext/JM Press
    135 + 55lbs of chain x 12
    155 + 55lbs of chain x 10
    175 + 55lbs of chain x 10
    185 + 55lbs of chain x 10

    Mini Band Pull-aparts
    3 sets of 20

    Face Pulls
    3 sets of 15

    Fat Handle Triceps Pushdowns
    3 sets of 12

Done. So I had a mini-accident today benching. I had the 2-board secured to my stomach with a knee wrap for my earlier sets, but we decided to call my sister down to the basement hold the boards for my last set. So my dad was lifting off and I had my older sister holding boards (LOL) freaking out. I ended up out of the groove and I dumped forward onto the power rack pins, as I warned her I might do.

Instead of moving the boards like I told her, my sister panics and lets go of them and they shoot up from the weight of the bar and jack me right in the mouth. She starts panicking and almost crying, I'm spitting blood thinking my teeth are knocked out, and my dad is standing there like "WTF?" Hahaha... in the end it was just a busted lower lip, teeth are in tact, and just a bunch of blood on my basement floor to add to the visual "hardcore" effect.

All in all, not a bad first session back in the shirt after a few months.
