The Five Biggest Contradictions in Fitness

It’s no secret that when people contradict themselves, it has the effect of making the flaws in their actions or statements seem glaringly obvious. But what about when WE ourselves get caught contradicting ourselves by someone else?

Drink some coffee and push yourself in the gym.

It may not be your best workout, but it'll sure as hell beat sitting on your ass at home and/or taking a nap.

Im oncall for my job most of the time, and often I get called in the middle of the night, to fix stuff.

I still workout, and sometimes I have awesome workouts even on little sleep.. I might feel like ass going in.. but to me, in my mind, its just another challenge to overcome, and one more thing to get mad about and pump myself up.

Life happens dude.. don't let it prevent you from hitting your goals.

    Good luck.

If we had to go by the 8 hour sleep rule... I'd probably never lift.

on a more serious note, only you will now if you are up to working out or not.

your muscles won't atrophy over night so rest if you need to and workout if you are feeling up to it.

It is currently a fad, at this writing, for boys to think they need a "six pack", although most of them don't have an ice chest to put it in.

No, I don't know. The mind is a powerful thing. Rid it of your negativity. It will be a half-assed workout not because you didn't get enough sleep, but because you've trained your mind to believe that will be the result because a lack of sleep.

Yes and no on this. If you're just sleepy, lift. If you feel sick and/or not sleeping well for several days, then maybe.

I thrive on 5 hours of sleep a night. Many days, when I've felt very tired, I set new PRs by psyching myself up and drinking some Ultimate Orange or coffee (yuck).

Take a caffeine pill or two right before a 20 minute nap. By the time you wake up the caffeine should be kicking in and you'll feel a crapload better. I find the caffeine also helps get rid of any grogginess after I wake up as well.
