The Five Biggest Contradictions in Fitness

Itís no secret that when people contradict themselves, it has the effect of making the flaws in their actions or statements seem glaringly obvious. But what about when WE ourselves get caught contradicting ourselves by someone else?

Cheap bench/rack in my area - is this a good buy?

Is this a good starter system, or should I hold out for something better?

Seems wierd that the weights are 44lb, 33lb, 22lb. Never seen anything other than 45lb, 35lb, 25lb so that makes me worry about the weights/barbell not being up to par.

There's also this, which is $300 more but I've seen that some folks here like Body Solid.

The first, $100, is already sold.

The second one, the $400 Body Solid one, is still available. I mean, it looks good to me, but this is my first weight/bench/rack purchase so I'm hoping you the experts can help make sure I'm getting something good - especially the rack part. I don't know if there is something special to look out for on the rack.

You want to find a rack that is full enclosed (power cage / power rack). You should be able to find a bodysolid one at a relatively good price, and used barbells can be found cheaply as well.

    Resources:

    Craigslist
    Ebay
    Salvation Army
    Metal Scrap Yards

A lot of people decide not to bring exercise equipment when they move, so just keep an eye out and you should be able to find some great buys. Any old York equipment that you can find will be high quality and Bodysolid equipment is well built also (they have lifetime warrantys on their racks when used in a conventional home gym application).

The second one (400) is a rip off.

OK, thanks. I'll continue to look for a better price.

Except for the price, was the equipment a good starting package for a garage gym? I want to make sure that when I do get something I get a set of equipment that I'm going to be happy with for the next 2-3 years. Unfortunately, none of my buddies are into weightlifting so I don't have anyone local to run it by.
