I want to send out a big thanks to our crew at Southside. This past Saturday we went and worked the CT Special Olympics Powerlifting Meet. Big Kenny fought off his awake apnea to judge (he stops breathing while he's awake--very strange). Matt "The Landslide" Rhodes and I took a turns loading and judging. Brian and Drew were animals. The loaded and spotted the entire time. I asked if they wanted to switch with me in the judges chair. They weren't having it. Drew's wife and little boy are troopers also. They hung out and supported us all day. By the way--Drew married out of his league. I also know Jonah and DD would have been there had they not had prior commitments. Thanks guys.
Now to the important part, the meet. These guys and girl kicked ass. They competed like you are supposed to compete. Easy openers, tough seconds, and they put it on the line for thirds. They supported each other on every lift. There was no backstabbing. No complaining about good or bad judging. It was just good old fashioned competing. The competitors and families were so happy for the help that they gave us a standing ovation for our help. That feeling was better than any pr I have ever hit.
I have worked this event before, but it felt that much better working it with my boys. Thanks for coming guys. I recommend anyone in the sport who can, to get involved with the Special Olympics. It will remind you why we all do what we do.
Thanks to all for reading my ramblings.
