The Five Biggest Contradictions in Fitness

It’s no secret that when people contradict themselves, it has the effect of making the flaws in their actions or statements seem glaringly obvious. But what about when WE ourselves get caught contradicting ourselves by someone else?

I think I'm finally almost part of the 1000 club

Now I've never really maxed out on deads or squats, but I know I'm quite a bit over 300 with deads (at least) and today I was going to try a max squat kind of half assed.

I went down there and warmed up with a couple sets of 225 and then just tried 295 and it was pretty damn easy, I could have gotten at least 5-6 reps with 295. It was a real "all of a sudden" thing and I just went down and tried it without warming up properly. Plus I just squatted on Thursday so I'm a little sore. EDIT: just did 320x1 pretty easily too. And 325.

My bench should be at least 290-300 by now, so I should really try to get a max of all three some time.

Sorry for the useless post, but I'm pretty excited to finally be getting there after being below a 700 total when I got my power rack last October. By the end of the year I'll be over 1000. It's about damn time. Then I can finally consider myself not so weak.

congrats man, i'm not quite sure where i'm at either. I know that i've added a lot to my big three tho from the time i started lifting about a year and half ago.
    Starting out it was about:

    Bench~ 160
    Squat~ 205
    Deadlift~ 225

    Now i'm

Bench~ 225x5, idk my exact max
Squat~ 285x5, never maxed on this
Deadlift~ 325x5, again never maxed here either.

So i bet i'm at least getting close to 1000 like you.

I just can't believe how fast my squat went up. I've been squatting probably less than a year because of all the breaks I took from my job, I would go weeks without squatting. I remember trying to do 225 in my 5x5 not long ago and just stopping after the third set because I was just too tanked. Even now I didn't even think I'd be able to get 280x1 but I could probably get 340x1 at least. That's not bad for about 8-10 months of squatting.

I was always pissed because my bench was higher than my squat, and while they're still semi close, I'm thrilled I'm getting this much right now without much preparation. If I'm rested I could probably do even more. I took a video but it's not a good one so I won't post it. My knees came in because I was tired and the rep was slow because I just did a bunch of singles.

    Either way, weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!

I am VERY close to 1000.

Right now I have a 405 deadlift, 235 bench and I can squat 325x5. I think I can hit 360 squat which would put me right at 1000!

I'll probably be about 5-10lbs shy right now. I don't really know because I don't want to max my deadlifts because something is still weird in my abdomen. I know I could squat 340-350 right now, I can bench at least 290, and probably dead at least 350. I've been holding back with them because of a possible hernia. Still can't figure out if that's what it is and I never went back to the doctor yet.

By the end of the year (or even sooner) it'll be mine. Especially since my squats are flying up. I tried a few months back when I could finally start squatting again and tried 270x1 and got floored.

Just having my big three all at or over 300lbs is awesome for me, I never thought I'd bench 300 because it was always WAY behind my other lifts.

Here is a screen cap from the video to show how low I got. Probably could have been a little lower.

Thanks. I'll still probably consider myself weak until I can squat twice my body weight.

Im right there with ya bud (see my sig.) For me, I feel squats are my weak point. I feel good about my bench and deads, but squat numbers need to come up. Im hoping to be past the 1ooo mark in the few short weeks

Thats some real nice progress, and it will feel good to join the club offically. Chances are though, you won't be happy with it for long, and your sights will be on the 1,100lb club.

You're probably right, but to me, the 1000lb club is the crossover point to officially not being so weak. That's what I care about right now.

That and gaining up to 210lbs.

Again, I completely understand that. 300 bench is a big milestone. I felt like I was in heaven for days after I benched 315 the first time. For years I thought I couldn't get there because of my very long wingspan. Now I'm on my way to 350, and I'm really loving benching. So, I completely understand.

Good luck bro, I'm shooting for the 1000 now myself too.

    I have a 275 x 5 squat
    230 x 5 bench
    375 x 5 deadlift

I don't know what my 1RM's are though. but totaling my 5RM's gives me 880.

    I think I could pull 405 for 1
    squat 315 for 1
and bench 250 for 1, which would give me a 970, but that's only theoretical crap since I've never done it yet.

If you're doing 230 x 5 on bench you can easily do 250 for 1. Easily.

I bet I'm already there too now that I think of it. I know for a fact I bench at least 290, based on how easy 325 was with squatting I'm betting I'm good for at least 340, which means all I need to do is deadlift 360. just worried about my abdomen for that.

It's just a matter of when i feel like testing all of these things I do want to pick up two more 45s so I can actually have 3 plates per side. Anyone know the going price at a Dick's Sporting Goods? Last time I was there it was almost $1/lb.

Dude, you've got it for sure. I totaled a grand with lower bench and deadlift 5RMs and the same squat 5RM. I'm pretty sure you could bench, squat and dead more than you think.

Balls. Still more than I want to pay. I might as well just buy another damn 300lbs set.

What is the best timeframe for me to try a max of all three lifts? Should I do them all in one day or space them out?
