The Five Biggest Contradictions in Fitness

Itís no secret that when people contradict themselves, it has the effect of making the flaws in their actions or statements seem glaringly obvious. But what about when WE ourselves get caught contradicting ourselves by someone else?

Im having sergury friday and if its up theyre not going to let me have the sergury. I had the same problem of high blood pressure last year 2nd semester when I was lifting really hardcore. My problem was that I was lifting and not doing any form of cardio. Once I incorporated running into my weekly schedule it started to go down and I am average now.

well, you could lower your sodium intake and up your potasium. also if you have extra weight it could help to shed it (adipose not muscle of course).

also, check your lifestyle, it could be lack rest & sleep and other stresses contributing to it.

would you mind sharing what you blood pressure reading is?

I dont remember off the top of my head what it was when i got my pre surgery checkup, but the doctor said it was a little high and i wouldnt be able to get my surgery if its not down a little on the day of sergury. Also i tried to give blood last week and my pulse was 106 and it has to be between 50 and 100, so i was unable to give blood.

do you ever get any these symptoms when this occurs...

dry mouth, palpitations, shakiness, weak feeling, shortness of breath, difficulty concentrating?

also, whats your resting heart rate?

you dont present any classic anxiety symptoms. it could simply be 'white coat hypertension', depending on what your reading is. this does of course occur in those who dont suffer from anxiety problems too. try to have your pressure taken early in the day if possible, and in the meantime try to lower sodium intake, increase potassium, do a little more cardio and take some time out to relax.

obviously the fact youre having surgery could be behind it (what is the surgery for out of interest?). try to use relaxation methods such as deep abdominal breathing, stretching, massage, etc. even lying on the sofa and reading a book will help. relaxing as much about giving the brain a rest as the body. things we all do, such as not having enough sleep, eating a large meal, even watching tv, all add to our stress levels. one of the best things everyone can do is just take some time out now and then and just let the world spin round.

    good luck

I also am dealing with High Blood Pressure, mine mostly comes from stress though.

Try this, it is a "stupid" breathing tech. but it really works: Inhale via your nose and count on the inhale for 5 seconds, hold for 3 seconds, and then exhale via your mouth for another 5 seconds. Continue to do this and you will be amazed how quickly you calm down which will include your BP.

Breathing exercises are very important. I would recommend some form of meditation to relax your body and mind.
