The Five Biggest Contradictions in Fitness

All right. On a scale of 1-10 I would give your deadlifts about an 8. The hardest thing I have found to teach myself and my team is to deadlift with your hips/ass and not as much your back. If you watch real close you'll see the first thing to raise when you start your pull is your butt.

Luckily you have strong legs so you can fix everything with out much trouble. When you start the lift you want you back arched and as TIGHT as possible. The bar should be tight touching your shins. You want your shoulders in line with the bar or almost behind it. Next start the pull with your legs. Your upper body should not move yet. If you watch your videos you'll see as you start the pull your butt comes up more than your shoulders changing the angle your back is in. This completely overloads your lower back and ruins your leverage.

Once the bar breaks off the floor using your legs. Your back should still be arched HARD!!!!!!! CHEST UP. If you're in proper position all you have left to do is push your hips forward "like you're having sex" all the way to lock-out.

When you let your shoulders fall forward at the start you have no choice but to finish the pull with your back because you loose all your leverage. You loose all the advantage of pulling sumo. You end up over the top of the bar instead of behind it. It's alot to try to explain in words. I deadlift tomorrow I'll make a video for you to try to point out everything I'm trying to explain.

Obviously I didn't mean to lean back so far at the top. I realized watching the video it looked real strange so I thought I would point that out.

Mike, thanks for the video, it does help. I'll work on it for my next dead lift session.

    Nick, thanks for the support.

Got a short chest and tri workout in today, and worked with some chains for the first time...

    Bench - 45 x 10, 185 x 8, 225 x 10, 225 + 40 in chains x , 135 + 40 in chains x 12
    Incline DB bench - 60 x 10, 60 x 10, 60 x 10
    Rope pushdowns - 50 x 12, 50 x 12, 50 x 12 supersetted with
    Iso Incline press - 45/side x 10, 45/side x 10, 45/side x 10

Benching with chains was a pretty good feel. It gave me a bigger pump than normal benching too. I was happy with the 4 reps, especially since I don't have any pre workout drink down here, and none of my wrist straps or elbow sleeves, etc. Just trying to maintain while I'm down here and while diet isn't that great...

So it looks like I won't be doing the meet in August. Just went to the doctor for my knees. I have a pretty severe case of patella tendinitis and am supposed to take 3 months off of any leg activity. It really sucks, but my knees have been giving me problems for 9 months now, and the pain is starting to be unbearable. SO it's time to take care of the problem. In the mean time, it's time to build an awesome back, something I've been neglecting for a long time.

    Pullups - BW x 20, BW x 10
    Lat pull downs - 165 x 8, 150 x 10, drop set 135 x 8, 120 x 6, 105 x 4, 90 x 4
    Lat Pushdowns - 110 x 12, 110 x 12, 110 x 12
    Low rows - 60 x 10, 70 x 10, 80 x 10
    High Rows - 80 x 10, 90 x 10, 100 x 10
    DB curls - 30 x 10, 30 x 10, 30 x 10
    Preacher DB curls - 15 x 10, 22.5 x 10, 25 x 10
    Wide grip Curls - 80 x 12, 90 x 12, 110 x 12
    Reverse Hypers - 45 x 15, 45 x 15, 45 x 15
    Side bends - BW x 20, BW x 20, BW x 20
