The Five Biggest Contradictions in Fitness

It’s no secret that when people contradict themselves, it has the effect of making the flaws in their actions or statements seem glaringly obvious. But what about when WE ourselves get caught contradicting ourselves by someone else?

Hope everyone is safe and sound after the storm. We have massive issues from the flooding in NYC. Both rivers flooded and spilled into local streets. Downtown was underwater. They are forecasting 4-5 days without subways and up to 2 weeks without power. They cut power in lower Manhattan last night. My girlfriend's apartment lost power and they said probably 3-4 days. We made out way back uptown to my apt where we have power. Her roommates are going to come stay up here.

Workouts have been spotty the last couple of weeks. Had a trip to New Orleans last weekend and the storm this weekend. I have been getting in at least 3 workouts the last couple weeks, just not my full 5. If I have been missing I have been dropping my arms and 2nd chest workout each week (which is optional anyway). Been working much more recently, 8-8 aren't uncommon recently but don't complain about having too much work when others don't have a job. Hope you guys are well, will try to catch up in journals this week.

That Sandy was a complete bitch, really hit you all up in NYC and along the east coast.
Living through such a catastrophic storm must be even more surreal than what I see on the news.

Nice about the New Orleans trip and time(s) well spent focusing on your ever promising career.

->John Meadows recommends these, can't argue with him eventhough a fat middle aged lady got on after me. He likes them as a pre-exhaust before squats

Notes: I guess it's been 6 months since i tweaked my back, so today was the day I do it again. Nothing major, but was stiff and not happy after squats. I called it quits instead of doing anything worse. Will be fine with a few days rest and my chiro trip.

Coke sent me a message on Facebook to stop by WBB and check in. Things are going well for me. My girl moved in a couple of months ago. I got a promotion at work a few weeks back (some role just a fancier title). I competed in an event called The RBC Decathlon earlier this summer (http://thedecathlon.org/). I short it was a 10 event athletic competition for people in the finance industry to raise money for the pediatric cancer center at Memorial Sloan Kettering. It also handed out the title of Wall St. fittest man (and woman). There was a handful of guys with cups of tea in the NFL and tons of former D1 athletes. Former Olympic Decathlon champion Dan O'Brien competed as a special invite. I did ok placing 9th out of 32 in the 30-39 age group. I had hoped to get in the top 5, but a couple of event proved to be a bit tougher than I expected. I placed well in the 40yd dash, vertical leap and 20 yard shuttle. I did ok in the pullups, dips, bench and row. I shit the bed compared to my goal in the dips. I don't know what happened there. I was weaker in the 400/800m runs. I was awful at the football throw. All in all it was a great event for a great cause.

Given my involvement in the event my workouts have been focused more on conditioning and sport specific stuff. Since the event I have gone back to a “powerbuilding” combination of powerlifting and bodybuilding. I am still being heavily influenced by John Meadows and his thoughts on training. I am smaller but have a more athletic build. I am currently sitting in the low-to-mid 170’s. This is the weight my body seems to gravitate to. Here are a couple of photos from my event/prep leading up to it. I will try to pop in now and again, but things are crazy busy. Workouts are nothing impressive right now. Highlights of this week were bench 205*10 and trap bar deads 335*12. I am easing my way back into lifting heavier. Trying to avoid the urge to grip and rip heavy things.

Don't see it happening. I would have to be a physique guy and don't have interest in that. I don't see myself trying to push my weight heavier enough to ever compete in bb'ing again.

    Notes

Alright so this week is a deadload, so nothing crazy going on and nothing too heavy. Weight has rebounded to the high 170s. I am looking forward to getting back into the 180s and beyond. Here is one update picture. I hadn't take one in forever. I will compare it in a month or so. I feel skinny as always. Kira doesn't want me any bigger for the wedding, but we have 11 months to fight over that!
