Why Do You Want to Be Strong?

Ok I know, I know, this is somewhat of a stupid question but I am curious. What motivated you to go to the gym in the first place?

Were you always small and decided you wanted to get big?

Did you want to look good but eventaully strength became more important?

Did you do it to try to impress someone?

Whatever your story is I would like to hear it.

Personal success. I want to be great, I want to leave a positive mark on my short amount of time on this earth, and I want to help as many people along the way as possible. The bigger and stronger you get, the more people listen, the most people you succeed in helping, the more successful you become. Just my way of thinking. Plus a good crowd makes me feel the most intense natural high.

I was always the little guy. The smallest out of all my friends. I want my girlfriend and family to feel safe when i'm around. I enjoy lifting a piece of metal multiple times. I also like setting PR's. I started to get strong because of football, and now i do it for personal satisfaction.

Started out for football. Now that I no longer play it's just something I enjoy. I'm also a fairly big framed fellow, so it just seems more natural for me to try to put on muscle/look stronger/be stronger.

To get big and strong. Started off incredibly skinny and wanted to get bigger and stronger. Now its about chasing down goals to prove to myself that I can, and a little bit to the people who told me I couldn't.

    Because strong is cool.

And if I'm going to get old and fat, I might as well get old, fat AND strong.

    Because instinct drives me to.

Weightlifting allows me to satisfy the urge in a constructive planned way with tangible measurable goals.

The other reason is pride, I want to leave my shoes on the platform knowing that in years of training I had nothing else to give, I spent all and gave all being the strongest I can be. Becoming world and Olympic champion or the bottom of the B division is inconsequential, as along as I can look back and know that was the best i could be.
Being a strong teenager means nothing.

My wrists hurt, but some people don't have wrists to be sore. My knees have tendinitis, but some people don't have legs to get tendinitis in. I seem to be going backwards with training, yet some people can't even walk let alone lift 400 pounds on a daily basis.

Dust out the vagina, and keep on lifting.

I picked up a copy of FLEX back in 89 (14y.o.)and decided to get lifting to be big! but it was not until 2001 that I discovered powerlifting...so i started at 15, nothing serious,, got from 145 to 180...got stuck at 190 and in 2002 after training like a powerlifter and reading more powerlifting oriented stuff i started to get big again...246 in 2005. had to stop for a while but im back at it again...

It's fun. It just feels good to be strong. Being sedentary is the polar opposite s***ty feeling.

And yes, chicks do dig it too.

i want to be strong for many reasons:

    a) i am not afraid of a fight to defend a friend/ myself
    b) so that i can join the school rugby team (i can dodge, just don't weigh enough and not fast enough)
    c) confidence
    d) attract girls
    e) to look good in most clothes
from mini to mighty... (hopefully), training for athleticism, muscle and confidence.
