The Five Biggest Contradictions in Fitness

Its no secret that when people contradict themselves, it has the effect of making the flaws in their actions or statements seem glaringly obvious. But what about when WE ourselves get caught contradicting ourselves by someone else?

    Squat

    airx10
    barx10
    135x5
    205x3
    225x3

    Band Assisted Chin Up

    Notes:

Happy with the 6 reps. Last cycle I got 4 at 260 so getting two more reps at only 5lbs less is a pretty good increase.

I know I got 8 at 125 but not sure what my last count was at 120. 10 seems about right.

    Notes:

Still seem to be creeping up each week on the deadlift so happy with that. The rep counts at these weights are killing my hands. Oh well, it will make them stronger (and tougher).

Bench felt good today. I don't have a previous rep count at this weight so no established PR. Moved up 5lbs on DB Row and Skull Crusher since I got 12x5 on both last week. Will work up to 12x5 at this weight then move up another 5lbs.

Was happy with 4. Got 260x4 last cycle so this is a good improvement. Skipped the accessories.

Getting caught up on some past posts here. It is the end of the quarter for us so I've been slammed trying to close some last minute deals.

I doubt the 4th one would have qualified in a competition. My grip was giving out. I locked it out but as soon as I did I went down with the bar rather than hold it for a few seconds. Was happy with it. A good finish to the cycle.

Just got my main lift done today. I had some vandalism done to my house two nights ago and was up super late with the cops with that and then couldn't sleep much last night as I was just laying their waiting for them to come back. So I was tired today. No PR so was sort of bummed out with that. Hopefully I can bust out a PR next week.

That's awful to hear about the vandalism. I've been a victim of that many times and forever made me angry and wound up. Don't be so hard on yourself for not busting out a PR. It'll be waiting for you next week.

Just got the main lifts done today again. I am going to have to get myself up early in the morning to give enough time for the accessory lifts. Just too busy these days.

Happy with my squatting lately. Can't believe I'll be squatting 280 in week 3 of this cycle. If I can get 4 up at 280 I'll definitely be on a roll in squatting.

I love PR's on bench. I ate a ton the last two days and didn't get any form of exercise so maybe that helped. Between lifting and basketball I was feeling a bit burned out.

Good job on busting out the PR's! 5/3/1 seems to suit you well.

Thanks. I definitely think 5/3/1 is a great routine, but what is more than likely contributing to my PR's is the consistency. I've never had this kind of consistency because my last job required so much travel that it made it too difficult. So I'm stoked with my schedule on my new job and the consistency it allows for me.

    Notes:

I actually had a real busy week last week and had to work on Saturday so I missed my week 1 of deaflifting last week. I decided to just go ahead and do week 2 since that is where I'm at in the rest of my lifts. The 5th rep was a grinder but I locked it out and held it. Next week is 375 - I can't remember if I've ever deadlifted that much before. I'd love to get 4 reps.

    Notes:

That last rep on the PR was a pure grinder. Almost didn't get the last inch locked out. I'm pretty luck I didn't end up losing my balance as the bar got a little behind my head when trying to lock it out. Got it though!!!

    Band Assited Chin Up

    6,5,4

    Sit Up

    16x3

    Notes:

I think my confidence level on squats is increasing. A month ago I probably wouldn't have gone for the 6th rep as the 5th itself was pretty difficult. But I felt my odds were pretty good about being able to grind it up so I went for it and got it. 280lb next week. Hoping for at least 4 reps.

General note: I'm going to do 3 sets on my assistance for a while instead of 5 sets. Between the lifting and playing basketball 2 or 3 days a week I've been feeling worn out and most likely overtrained so I'm going to cut down the assistance and see if that helps.

If you are feeling overtrained; then it's a good call to roll back the assistance sets.

Good call on cutting back. Basketball games can take a lot out of you. Nice job with the squats.
