A question about squats & DL

I have not been doing squats and dead lifts, but after reading everything on here i think i should.
    Squats are for legs right?
Dead lifts are for Back? or Back and Legs?

    My question is:

Should I do Legs and Back on the same day?

And what body parts should i train together?
    Deal with it.

I would not recommend doing legs and back on the same day. Curently I do:

    Chest + shoulders
    Back (<<<deads here)
    Legs (<<<squats here)
    arms

    Squats work mainly:
    Glutes
    Quads
    stabilizers

    Deads (conventional) work mainly:
    Back
    whole legs
    stabilizers

    Deads (stiff-legged) work mainly:
    hamstrings
    back
    stabilizers

Arguments in favor of both, as the greatest exercise you can do, can be found. I think deads (conventional) put that extra stress on more of your body and that they are the king of exercises.

would it be ok to do squats on wednesday
    and deads on thrusday?

or have a day off in between because they both hit legs?
    Deal with it.

I would recommend at least 2 days in between. I do deads on Thursday and squats on Sunday.

Me too. Can't do them both heavy, though, not in the same week.

That I have not had a problem with. I have not maxed out yet, but up to 5 rep max. I am progressing well with both.

Me neither, for a long time. But when my squat started getting up to the same level as my deadlift, they were both too heavy; too much stress on the hips.

Belial, my squat is levelling with my deadlift recently, is this common do you think, i used to deadlift much more than i squatted.

lol. I think it's common, at least. Most elite powerlifters have a higher squat than deadlift. Granted, much has to do with grip, but...

My deadlift used to be a good 100 pounds ahead of my squat, and now they're equalizing. Honestly, reducing deadlift intensity had a lot to with this, I believe. Getting my squat up was key, and I didn't realize just how much stress pulling so much weight off the floor every thursday was. When I began backing off here, my squat skyrocketed.

I guess my questions are: Are both lifts still progressing? What poundages are you using? What's your height/weight?

i'm 6'3" and 220 lbs, i deadlift 350 for 8-10, i squat 310 for 8-10 reps, sorry don't know maximums at the moment. Both are progressing. squat was catching fast until today when i got my straps now i can see my deadlift getting better quckly in the future. I am fairly happy with this, had never considered stopping deadlifts though as you have, will you consider starting them again at any stage?

    Big Al,

Don't get me wrong, I still deadlift, but I've been keeping them at 450 or under for a few singles on my deadlift day, then I do just about the same weight for reps on the squat on sunday. I also do SLDLs heavy on sundays, so I figure that if my legs and lower back are getting stronger, my deadlift will have no choice but to improve. So, if you notice stagnation in either, I'd start to rotate between heavy deads/light squats one week, and light deads/heavy squats the next.

I noticed my DL shot up like a mofo when I did them for heavy singles every 3-4 weeks after doing squats and SL's one day, with shrugs on another.
