The Five Biggest Contradictions in Fitness

Itís no secret that when people contradict themselves, it has the effect of making the flaws in their actions or statements seem glaringly obvious. But what about when WE ourselves get caught contradicting ourselves by someone else?

    Protein shake before workout??

So I've been hearing a lot lately including some of my bulkier, stronger friends, telling me they drink a protein shake before (obviously as well as after) their workouts, saying it gives you optimal results. Is there any truth behind this? I usually drink a shake right after a workout and then about 3 to 4 hours later as well, should I drink one before instead of 3 to 4 hours after?

I only drink a shake before morning workouts. Thats because I don't have time to cook a breakfast. But when I work out during the evenings(which is most of the time) I like to have a real meal 2-3hrs before lifting.

I try to put at least an hour between a meal or shake and my workout. Your body shouldn't be using energy to digest while you are trying to focus it on lifting.

Plus, passing gas while squatting can be distracting...

Unless I've had really big meals during the day prior to workout, I will often have a shake (water + whey + dextrose) within one hour of workout but outside of 1/2 hour of workout.

I usually have some pre-workout carbs and protein, whether it be from shakes or food.

I usually have a shake on my car ride home. That gives me about an hour before lifting. I would think drinking one to close to the workout could draw your blood flow to your stomach instead of to the rest of your body. I could be completely wrong though.

I have one (large one) about 1.5 hours before I workout and no problems. That has actually helped me put on weight.

I don't drink shakes at all but I do take protein/carbs prior to workout.
