The Five Biggest Contradictions in Fitness

Its no secret that when people contradict themselves, it has the effect of making the flaws in their actions or statements seem glaringly obvious. But what about when WE ourselves get caught contradicting ourselves by someone else?

Awesome squatting BC. That OH pressing is monstrous too.

Glad to hear the ankle didnt set you back.....or would it have been 415x10? lol.

Supposed to DL today, but I was so hungover I couldnt even get out of bed till like 2pm. So ill hit it up tomorrow.
Went out last night and entered a wing eating contest at the bar we were at. The wing bowl is coming up in a few weeks, so everyone is jumping on the wing eating train now( for those who dont know, the wing bowl is a professional wing eating contest in Philly the week before the Super Bowl). So anyway, I enter after much edging on from the boys and sit against 11 other guys. We got 5 minutes to eat as many buffalo wings as we could. the top 3 then get 3 minutes to eat more, and that determines the winner. After the 5 minutes, I banged down 43 wings for 3rd place and got into the final against 2 monsters weighing an easy 300 apiece. #1 ate 49 and the other ate 46. So the 3 minutes start and im housing wings like theres no tomorrow. At the end I ate 61 wings in 8 minutes and got 2nd place. #1 ate over 70 and other guy ate 59. And the best part was it was free protein! Haha good times good times. Heres a link to the wing bowl if you wanted to check it out: http://www.610wip.com/Wingbowl-18-Headquarters/5791083

That's awesome. I went to a wing place the other day and ordered 25 wings for myself and everyone was like "I can't believe you're going to eat all that" and I was like "yeah, and I know I'll still be hungry afterward!"

61 in 8 minutes is crazy, though! Free protein rocks!!!

    1/17 DL 5/3/1 Cycle 1 Week 1

    Sumo
    185x5
    225x5
    255x5
    290x5
    335x5
    380x12

    45' Hyper w/ Doubled miniband
    x15x3

    Standing Cable Crunches
    3 sets of 12

First time DLn in about a month and felt great. I was really annoyed at my last DL performance and since then have been really focusing thoughts on my form and reading and rereading articles. And its paid off as I felt like my form was dead on. Weight was breaking the floor easily and flying up. Good start to the program.

This week is going to be hell for training. Im working 7ax3p and the wife is working 3px11p all week. So I got kid duty until she gets home at around 11:40. Ill be trainig at midnight all week.(which sucks when you got to get up at 5am every morning..) I just need a way to keep energy up at night because once im settled in after they go to bed, I usually turn off and am good for nothing.

That is some serious dedication to hit the gym at 12am and have to get up at 5am. Right now I'm travelling between pacific time and central time (2 hrs apart) every week and it is kicking my butt. Last Wed I talked myself out of going to the gym cuz I was so beat tired. I guess if you can get your butt in there at midnight and be up at 5am I can get my lazy a** there on Wednesdays!! Good motivation.

You will be ok if you can get a catnap in somehow, otherwise tough it out the best way you can...abbreviated efforts won't hurt, combine things for a couple of days until schedule gets squared away. Solid deads Brian.

Nice deadlifts. Just a suggestion, but to help your recovery this week with the late night lifts I would just hit the prescribed reps on the main lifts. Whenever I have to lift late it works well and leaves me enough energy to get the accesory **** done and wake up on time.

Insanely high reps on your last sets man! Good stuff.

That's why I love 5/3/1. The feeling of hitting a high number of reps on your HEAVIEST set of the day is just awesome! I think you have chosen your starting weights perfectly. According to Wendler, it's not uncommon to be hitting 10+ reps for the first few cycles. Usually around the 4th or 5th cycle when you really start realizing that you are unable to bang out a s***load of reps.

Don't do it mate you'll never sleep lol.

Ha ha I did the same as I sometimes train late at night, I had two cans and didn't sleep at all.

I think the sleep is more important than getting a full session in.

    1/18 Bench (5,3,1) week 3 cycle 1

    135x5
    185x5
    225x5
    245x5
    275x3
    310x4

    Skullcrushers
    115x10x3

    Seated Cable rows
    220x12x3

Ok need a new plan this week. Went in at midnight and was like a limp fish. No motivation or energy. I'm a little dissapointed with 4 reps on the last. the weight felt light in the hands but coming off the chest it was like someone sat on it. I felt weak in my front delts, like that was where my press was coming from. Anyway, when I work at night and then go the gym I'm good, but when I sit home all night and am basically falling asleep, I'm worthless at the gym. The wife decided to take Thurs off so I'm going to wait to squat then. ill get ohp's and dl's in on the weekend.

Ya, I feel the same way when I try to lift on Saturday mornings right after I wake up. I guess it's just easier after work because you haven't allowed yourself to get into 'relax mode' yet. Maybe there's some way of pumping yourself up and getting out of that mode for these types of situations. If you figure it out let me know, and I will do the same.

Bench still looked pretty good to me though.

I have the same problem. If I sit around all day I end up feeling lazy in the gym.
