The Five Biggest Contradictions in Fitness

Itís no secret that when people contradict themselves, it has the effect of making the flaws in their actions or statements seem glaringly obvious. But what about when WE ourselves get caught contradicting ourselves by someone else?

Thanks Bri! Ive been thinking of different form tweeks I want to try, so I will go again in it. If I do go with a Velocity, they do offer velcro, so that will be a defenite.

    5/31 Bench-Shirt break in

    135x5
    225x5
    275x3
    315x1
    335x1
Got the SDP on almost all the way up, but not quite. Still a little too tight, but started to get some work in it.
405x3 thumb off smooth 4 brd
    405x3 same
405x3 almost pinky on ring 3 brd
405x3 pinky on ring 3 brd
425x3 ring on ring 4brd, flared elbows out to work chest plate
425x3 middle on ring 3 brd same
425x3 index on ring 2 brd
    425x2 same

    Floor DB Extensions
    50s x10 x2

    Band Tri Pushdowns
    3 sets of 20

Kept weight light to break the shirt in. Everything moved fast. Went from close grip 4 brd to comp grip 2 brd, so a good first day of breaking it in. Fighting the shirt, my form wasnt pretty at all, but not worried about that once it's broken in. Looks like I may be good to go for July 9th.

I knew you would get that fucking thing on. BOOM! Every session it will fit a little better.

Tidy break in session. Happy for ya mate.

Squats looked strong. Are your hips shifting laterally you mean? Mine do that too. Sorry I know I always say that. What is the cause? A weakness or just the difference in favouring your dominant side? Awesome getting nearly 800 on your back.
This is the true joy in life, the being used for a purpose recognized by yourself as a mighty one; the being thoroughly worn out before you are thrown on the scrap heap; the being a force of Nature instead of a feverish selfish little clod of ailments and grievances complaining that the world will not devote itself to making you happy - George Bernard Shaw

Thanks Justin. A pretty good break in day. I should be good in time for the meet. With the Boss suit, it has a tendency to shoot your hips forward when going in and coming out of the hole. If your not pushing out on the knees enough and staying tight, it'll throw you off which happened on that one set of 645.

So far, the shirt is really strong through the whole press. Great pop off the boards and effortless lockout, even at such a close grip. Another session or 2 and ill be ready. Im feeling a decent mid 500 press for the meet.

    6/2 Deadlift (somewhat)

Just wanted to get in the suit botoms and play around with form
    sumo
    all reps reset
    135 x5
    225x5
    315x3
    suitbottoms
    405x3
    455x2
    495x1 ultra wide
495x1 feet just outside rings(normal setup)
    495x0 feet inside ring
    belt only
    315x1 x8

    BB Rows
    3 sets of 12

My back is rounded and not tight. That is what im finding when in the boss suit. When I start the pull, I break the floor and feel the weight in my middle back. Ultra wide, I was able to get the hips down more, so my back wasnt as rounded, so the weight moved ok. But im not going to be able to move heavy weight this wide. When I got the feet in the rings, I was totally bent over and loose at the start, hence the miss. Saturday, Ill see about trying Mike's single ply suit, and also just briefs again. Didnt have much time, plus I was deflated from disgust. Blah

Looks like you got some good practice in which is going to help!

    Ultra wide was strong!!

Do you pull the slack out of the bar before you pull? This will raise the bar a little and let you straighten your back some.

As for feeling it in the mid back thats just like me.

Really like to see a video bro!

Just trying different things out. Didnt have much time. I was kindve rushing and didnt even think of videoing. But I will soon. Yeah I do pull the slack out, but the suit is so tight im in a weird position down at the bar. How does the legless suit benefit you better than legs? I feel that might be something that might be better suited for me.

I just cut them off because it is a conventional suit......means I can pull sumo in it so its just a crotch and straps no legs pushing knees in.

No legs or super loose legs will make it easier to get to the bar.

It works very well and I get good carry over sumo.

Something to try may be going down in position (bend legs, push knees out, tilt forward) then use your finger tips to pull your first hand in then grip bar with second hand rather than just reaching down by bending right over to grip the bar then trying to get set-up and pull......your back will be more bent with the latter style.

Loose legs will give better carryover than no legs btw........tight legs you may be worse off.

I think thats the problem. Legs are just too tight. Id rather have a different suit for pulling anyway because the Boss is known to stretch. Might try to pick up a used pulling suit. Once I can afford it, I want to get a canvas. Either Inzer or Overkill.

Are you pulling your self down? It shouldn't be easy. You should make your body so tight that you have to use alot of force to pull your hips down. Also, I learned that I can get into a better pulling position when I pull sumo if I take the leg that is the same side as my underhand (which for me would be my left hand/left leg) and take a small step back. So there will be a gap between the bar and my left shin, but not on the right side. Maybe something to try out.

Yeah I do pull into the bar. I first squat to the bar pushing knees out, the bend over only what I need to grab the bar. Once I have my grip, I pull the slack out of the bar and pull my hips down as far as I can. I think the problem is when I do pull down I round and lose my arch. I really need to get video of it. Ill see if I can have Mike video my pull tomorrow. It sucks because my raw/ brief only form is spot on and very efficient. i just need to adjust to a suit.

Ill see if I can have Mike video my pull tomorrow. It sucks because my raw/ brief only form is spot on and very efficient. i just need to adjust to a suit.
It's hard, but you really got to force that arch. It's almost like doing 3 things at once, lol. IMO, pulling sumo is way more technical then conventional. It is possible that the suit might be to much or maybe you just need more practice in it. But if you feel more comfortable pulling in briefs then do it. Are you still going to try a single ply suit?
