The Five Biggest Contradictions in Fitness

Itís no secret that when people contradict themselves, it has the effect of making the flaws in their actions or statements seem glaringly obvious. But what about when WE ourselves get caught contradicting ourselves by someone else?

    Thursday video:
    Video

    Today's DE lower training:
DE box squat. SSB + 70 lbs of chains + 2 24 kg KBs suspended by chains
    170 8 x 2
    220 x 2

This is great for stability. KBs were setup so they never touched the ground.

DE deadlifts with mini quaded and green doubled at 3" deficit
    315 6 x 1 (no belt)

These were tough above the knee which is perfect.

Thanks! I'm aiming for Al Caslow's meet on February 6th. 800+ is the goal. I need to unrack and be better balanced to do it. It's improving. I'm not crazy enough to try Smolov, haha.

I still need to get my chest up more when I squat. I was too wide on the last one. I wish I was flexible enough to squat that wide.

Have you tried doing some overload work?

I did a few squat cycles where all I did was overload work (reverse purples doubled out of monolift, and even working up to a 1rm with 3 blues/side). I think it really helped me as i was handling around 900lbs at the top for a few weeks, made 800 feel very light.

I think you have the strength for 800 once you put on all your gear, you just got to get the bar in the right position.

Smolov isn't near as crazy as the squat cycle I have planned for my next meet, i figure if my body lets me squat pretty much as heavy and as often as i like, i may as well take advantage of it.

It looks to me like you are shifting forward as you unrack the bar. It looked much worse with 615 than the other weights, but I saw it on the second SQ as well. I can't say it with 100% certainty based on the angle of the video, but you do look a little off balance as you unrack the bar. In my experience this is due to foot and/or hip placement. It looks like your hips are underneath you pretty well, although it is a little tough to tell from the front. Perhaps you need to to move your feet forward just slightly?
Those are just my thoughts based on the video. It's easier to figure these things out live in person.

I will do some overload work in the near future. I used to do it against bands, but I need to do it with chains or reverse bands so I don't have bands locking me in a groove.

I may need my feet a little more forward. I need to get my arch, then lower my hips to get myself under the bar. I tend to get under the bar then try to arch. I don't think I get my chest up as much as I should. That's why I'm always leaning forward a little when I unrack it. I think now I've minimized it so it doesn't feel like I'm going to fall forward as soon as I unrack, but it can still be better.

Thanks. I guess the floor press is working. Now I'm going to be smarter and keep doing it until it stops working. There's no point in changing something that's working.

Thanks. I'm glad you like the Q&A

Here's the video from the workout. The 575 does look easy. My forearms/wrists need to be stronger. I'm going to add the wrist rope back to my DE days.

Solid lifting. I love logs which have videos in them...Without videos we're so 1999-ish

Thanks. Yes, we video a lot then Bill picks a couple of lifts from each person for the team video. Some people video more of their own work just to see their lifts and where they need work.

Yeah, the 2-bd is close to my full ROM with the SDP. I did 545 off 2-bd when I hit 529 and missed 551 about halfway up at the meet.

In my SDP I found that I did not get greatly exaggerated board press numbers as well. What I could do from a 2 board was similar to what I could do off my chest, with the Rage-x I could do more weight off a 2 board, but had a bigger drop off to the chest.

You make me want to try my SDP again. You smoked that lift, I think you will be handling 600 very soon.

My super katana experience matches your rage-x experience. I definitely prefer my SDP. I have the super katana for the occasions when I feel like doing a 1-ply meet. I want to do one more sometime next year to get my elite in 1-ply. I need to increase my bench. Brad is doing a meet next weekend and will bench 600+. Higgs has benched 600+ and will be back there soon. I can't let them leave me in the dust even if bench is my worst lift.

DMedley, we all start somewhere. The key is to keep getting stronger.

squats looking real quick. Bills squat was insane considering the weight on the bar.

Why the low band tension? just a change of pace?

    Thanks guys!

I try to only use a purple or green when squatting raw. The way we choke them the purple is 100 and green is 160. After deload this week, then I'll add briefs and the weights/bands will go up. I'll use green or blue. Bill has a ton of squat power in his hips and legs. He needs to get his back strong enough that max weights don't make him collapse.

DE floor press with fat bar and 25 lbs of chains
    185 8 x 3

    Panora press
    mini doubled 4 x 15

    Row thing
    90 x 10
    110 2 x 10

    Hammer curls
    35 2 x 10

Did some foam rolling on my hips. They are tight.
