Be careful you don't ruin the bar. We use a destroyed Jessup bar for rack pulls. It got destroyed the first time Bill slammed it down doing rack pulls with bands.

    Marcus,
Your folks seem to have good luck cutting weight and still lifting well at meets, so I thought I would ask you about this. I've lost weight to where I'm 276-278 in the mornings. I originally planned to drop into the low 270's and lift in the 275's this fall. Now I'm wondering if I should just stay in the 275-280 range and cut a little weight to make the 275's. I've probably lost a little strength, but I'm afraid trying to take off any more will really bottom out my strength.
My question is do you think a cut from ~280 would be relatively easy with water and sodium manipulation with having to cut my food intake? This is assuming a weigh-in the evening before the meet. I've cut once in the past and felt like it affected my strength, but I cut my food intake way down for a couple days too. Thanks.

    Sean,

Yeah, you could easily do it. Bill is usually around 285 and cuts easily to 275. He's actually over cut to under 270 before. The first 8-10 lbs of water weight is cake and comes off in the first few hours you do it. I'd just cut water about 3 hours before bed the day before weigh ins if you're not weighing in until the evening. Then monitor your weight during the day and use that as a guide for how much you can eat. You'll have to eat less, but you should be able to have some food.

Short bench workout because I left early to go to the Sharks game.

    Shirted bench:
    455 x 1 (pretty high)
    495 x 1 (2-bd for the rest)
    545 x 1
    565 x 1

I actually wore a powerlifting belt and played with jacking my shirt more. I'm going to try touching with my shirt jacked up some next time. I just wanted to get some shirted work in since I haven't worn it since the meet 6-7 weeks ago.

I deloaded today. Just some hamstring and hip work. My lower back needs a rest.

We didn't going to our normal place after training. We went to Iguana's. It's a burrito place. It's been on Man vs. Food. Joey Chestnut has eaten their 5 lb burrito in 2:30ish. We are not Joey Chestnut, but a lot of food was consumed. Sitting outside definitely made it feel like we were at the zoo, and we were the animals, haha.

Why does Bill snap his head forward on squats like that? That just seems unsafe.

I'm not sure. It's just a Bill thing. He's tried to explain it, but we just make fun of him.

Im sure youve already talked to him about it but Cliff sure could put up some big numbers If he took a step back to really focus on his form. He looks like a brute under the weights week after week.

I agree. It's improving, but there's more work to do. I think if he puts the technique side together, then he'll be out totaling the rest of us pretty soon.

DE free squats with lightened method (MM doubled):
    525 8 x 2
    575 2 x 2

I wore my loose boss briefs. I ended up pausing in the hole with them. I just need to get more comfortable being in the hole without a box.

Attempted to do some cleans which are more of a deadlift, high pull, into a reverse curl:
    135 x 1
    185 x 1
    225 x miss, miss, x1
255 x miss This would be easy if I had any technique at these. I don't really get under the bar. I had it chest high but couldn't catch it.

I haven't done power cleans in a long time. Whenever my hand heals up I'm gonna throw those in the mix.

It sucks that the bar drifted into the rack on that 565, but you handled that 585 to a 1brd pretty good. Nice work!!!!
