The Five Biggest Contradictions in Fitness

Itís no secret that when people contradict themselves, it has the effect of making the flaws in their actions or statements seem glaringly obvious. But what about when WE ourselves get caught contradicting ourselves by someone else?

"It's good to know I'm not the only one that isn't good at GMs. I think part of it is that I actually keep the bar in front of my heel and don't cheat to squat it up."

I always see people do that on youtube, why not just squat?

    Looking good Marcus!!

Yeah, I guess in the end it doesn't really matter. If the way do you GMs makes your squat and/or deadlift go up, then they are working. It's not like they are a competition lift. My JM press is pretty ugly, but it makes my bench go up.

    ME raw box squats
    465 x 1
    515 x 1 10 lb PR
    535 x 1 30 lb PR
    555 x miss

    2" deficit deads (no belt)
    405 x 5
    495 x 5
    515 x 5

    Narrow stance low box squats
    325 x 5

The pins were too high. I nailed them with my wrists and jacked my shoulder.

This video has two funny moments...

DE squats with SSB and avg band
    260 8 x 2

DE deads vs doubled short mini and 80 lbs of chains at 2" deficit
    315 8 x 1 (no belt)

Sumo deads same setup no belt
    315 x 3
    365 2 x 3

    Spud abs
    110 x 10
    130 2 x 10

We got video of the speed dead setup. This time I used the short mini with both lengths over the bar instead of a short light with one length over the bar. The tension is the same.

They were fun. It feels equally difficult the whole ROM.

    ME bench off manpon:
    315 x 1
    345 x 1
    365 x 1
    385 x 1 (10 lb PR)
    405 x owned like a bitch

Attempting 395 would have been a lame ass move.

    4-bd thumb width from smooth:
    225 x 5
    275 x 5
    315 x 5

    Barbell rows:
    295 3 x 5

    Band pull aparts:
    purple 3 x 10

    Thanks Brian.

    ME squats in briefs
    435 x 2
    525 x 2
    615 x 2
    665 x 2

These were all pretty easy. Briefs are tighter. I figured the 615 was high which the video confirmed. I think the 665 set was close, but there's no video. That means I buried it ATG! haha. First time wearing any gear in 2 months, so there's some rust. I haven't worn those briefs in a long time. I think at this point my ME rotation will be raw squat variant, deadlift variant, and squat with some gear. I'm not really sure what local meets there will be in the Oct-Nov time frame. It looks like a bunch of us are going to the Lexen meet the Arnold weekend. I'd like to do 1 meet between now and then.

    2" deficit deads (no belt)
    335 x 5
    425 x 5
    515 x 5
    535 x 3

    BW 3 x 10

    Thanks Coke.

Some highlights and low lights from the past few days. I didn't train Sunday, because Gregg competed in a meet. He hit some huge PRs in the squat and bench so that was great.

    Training last night:
    ME bench with sling shot
    315 x 3
    365 x 1
    385 x 1
    405 x 1
    415 x miss
    315 x 5 no sling shot

    KB row
    32 kg 2 x 20

    3-bd thumb width from smooth
    225 3 x 10

    H-roll
    35 2 x 10

Shoulder mobility to help my squat.

Low lights: Mark broke his forearm benching last night. He's having surgery this morning. They are inserting some pins and screws. They said he'll be able to start benching again in about 8 weeks. He plans on training lower body as best as he can starting ASAP. If you normally wear wrist wraps, then make sure you wear them for max attempts.

He had 385 on the bar. He's handled over 400 multiple times but always with wrist wraps on.

Yeah, he needs to quit changing bench shirts all the time. He got too fat for the one he had been wearing in training and switched last night. Last meet, he blew out his shirt in the warmup room and used his backup.
