The Five Biggest Contradictions in Fitness

Itís no secret that when people contradict themselves, it has the effect of making the flaws in their actions or statements seem glaringly obvious. But what about when WE ourselves get caught contradicting ourselves by someone else?

    Meet results:

    Squat:
677 x miss (I just fell forward. It was so easy/fast it shocked me a bit.)
    677 x good
722 x good (Pretty pissed I wasted an attempt because I had more in me)

    Bench:
    545 x good
    567 x miss
    567 x miss

No clue what happened except I didn't even get the 2nd and 3rd off my chest really. They were right in the groove and nothing.

    Deadlift:
    633 x good
    689 x good
733 x miss (It was moving good and I just feel backwards when it got to my knees. I've never had that happen on a deadlift.)

    1955 Total

I need to put together better training for my next meet.

I know the feeling Marcus, not a bad meet, but not at all what you're capable of. I feel like the opening squat is my single most important lift of a meet. It's always the least consistent; I don't know if that's been a problem for you in the past, but I've had my squat opener wreck a few meets for me. You'll bounce back and get a meet where things fall into place.
    Current PR's 198 - 220
    Squat - 777 - 771.5
    Bench - 611.7 - 628.2
    Deadlift - 567 - 584
    Total 1929 - 1973

I know you didn't get what you wanted, but you still put up some good numbers. Maybe you need to go over your training and start changing things up a bit. How did the knee hold up?

Mike, I've been getting by making one squat for too long. I didn't cut weight for this meet, and it made a huge difference. My squat gear fit right. It was just a stupid mental error, because it felt too easy. I thought about going to my planned 2nd anyway, but the smart move is to repeat the weight. I was originally going to open at 710 until about 4 weeks ago when 705 buried me twice. That made me change my plan which ended up being too conservative.

    Thanks Coke.

Brian, I missed too much training to perform at a high level at the meet. I kind of knew that going in and was actually leaning against doing the meet until my last 3 training sessions went decent enough. Training for a meet while moving was a pretty dumb idea, but I needed to get back on the platform. I do have some things I'm going to change. I need to decide on a next meet so I can plan for it.

Yes. I have a used leviathan I got for $20 awhile ago. I couldn't say no to the price. Once I get my new overkill briefs I'll get it resized to fit me. I like the boss but they stretch out fast. I love ace but getting it to fit right is a pain. They are cut way too small in the legs.

I don't blame you $20 compared to $300 is alot better, lol. I haven't used my boss that much for it to stretch out.

I missed the 505 exactly where I missed 733 at the meet. That exercise replicates my competition deadlift pretty well.

I need to start pulling against bands again. I feel like my lockout is moving, so now I need to match it from the floor. Do you have any other meets in mind?

Deadlifting against bands is great. Some people say it really beats them up, but I like it.

There's a local meet July, 24th at Jesse Burdick's gym. I think I'm going to do that. It's only ~40 minutes from me, so I can sleep in my own bed and everything. That should be enough time to break in the new gear too. I want to travel to a bigger meet, but it's hard to convince other people to go.
