The Five Biggest Contradictions in Fitness

Itís no secret that when people contradict themselves, it has the effect of making the flaws in their actions or statements seem glaringly obvious. But what about when WE ourselves get caught contradicting ourselves by someone else?

Is your leviathan still really loose?

I only get about 100lbs after adding a suit.. but briefs + wraps I get about 200 so in the end I get good carryover.

    The 749 was full gear.

It isn't that tight. I should get the hips tightened up after this meet. While I've gained weight, it seems to only be in the thighs. I haven't done a raw squat max in quite awhile, but I think I'm only getting about 200 lbs out of my gear. That's not nearly enough.

    ME shirted 1-bd
    551 x 1
    584 x 1
    606 x 1

I was pressing straight up instead of drifting back.

    Tuesday: work blows
    Thursday: work blows

This isn't exactly great training going into a meet. Either it's a long taper that's going to work great or it'll suck.

I'm going to skip logging accessories, since I'm so far behind.

    Saturday:

DE squats vs 155 lbs of chain (no box)
    415 6 x 2

    ME deadlift in suit
    635 x 1
    675 x 1

675 felt pretty easy. Probably go 683 or 688 on a second. This was a makeup for Tuesday.

    Sunday:

ME bench with 80 lbs of chain and slingshot
    315 x 1
    345 x 1
    365 x 1
    385 x 1

Did ME bench instead of DE since I missed Thursday.

This week will be jacked up too. On Thursday, I'm going down to USPA nationals to help MCL. We come back on Sunday. Then I'll take my squat opener Tuesday and bench opener Thursday and I'm done.

    Squat opener:

    617 x 1 (straps up)
    683 x 1
    733 x 1

I felt off balance the whole night. I was either too far forward or too far back.

    Squat
    733 x good
    755 x miss
    771 x good (5 lb PR)

I really messed up the setup on 755. I moved my feet and got way off center. I unracked, got the squat commanded, and started go fall to the right, and that was my "attempt". It was a really dumb mistake.

    Bench
    573 x good
    606 x good (28 lb PR)

The 606 was right at the limit, so I passes on my third.

    Deadlift
    633 x good
    688 x good
    705 x miss

I never used to miss off the ground but now I do. I need to adjust my training to fix it.

    2066 (66 lb PR)

Now I need to put in a much better training effort for the next meet.

Here's the video. We didn't get video of the 606 bench which sucks. I'll have to ask around and see if anyone else has it.

DE squats vs blue band with buffalo bar:
    310 8 x 2

Kept it light and fast. Box was a little high too.

    Trap bar deadlift:
    245 x 5
    335 x 5
    425 x 5
    515 x 5

I'm not sure how much that bar weights. It's more than 45 though. I'm pretty bad at these. It should help me get faster off the floor.

    GHR:
    4 x 10

    Thanks Chris.

Brian, yup. I've been doing some deficit work. I think it had too much contrast. I wasn't getting enough work at the bottom. I'm going to change it to more straight weight and less contrast. I want to rotate that and the trap bar on Saturdays.

ME squat with SSB vs 155 lbs of chain (with briefs)
    490 x 1
    530 x 1
    550 x 1
570 x miss (folded in half)

Interesting that I'm better with the cambered bar than SSB. I would have thought it was the other way around.

    Sumo SLDL
    315 x 5
    405 x 5

    Back extensions
    light band 4 x 10

    In more exciting news, I went to an auction today. It was for a gym that closed. I picked up a ton of dumbbells: 55, 60, 65, 70, 75, 80, 85, 90, 110, 115, 125, 140 (we already have 100's and everything under 55), and racks for them. I also get 26 45s which are thin, 8 35s, 2 25s. I got it all for $795.
