Tom Mutaffis - Strongman Competition & Gym Training Videos

Here is some contest footage from the South Carolina "Baby" Beast contest. I entered the HW class despite weighing 230 lbs and took 1st place, winning or tied first in all events.

    Video

Also hit a front squat PR last week, 385 lbs x 8:

    Incredible man, you're getting beastly.

How heavy is the heavyweight division out of interest? How much did the other outweigh you by?

    Thanks everyone!

It is funny that a few people mentioned the events "looked easy" because when I watch the videos I think that myself sometimes. When you're out there things don't feel easy but sometimes on video it will look much faster than you had thought.

Will try to post up some additional gym training videos over the next couple of weeks.

The HW division in Strongman is over 231.5 lbs (105 Kg), but most of the guys within 10-20 lbs will cut down because the weights are generally lower in the LW division and a lot of the guys in the 240-250 lbs range can be very competitive in the LW's.

At this contest we had 8-9 HW competitors including myself, and the next lightest was probably 20 lbs heavier than me. I made weight as a LW that day but decided to jump up and compete with the big guys.

Belt popped off and you kept going! Nice one Tom.

And those front squats are BRUTAL. I'm always out of breath and panting by the 5th rep of those things.

Thanks guys, I feel like I was pretty focused for this contest and came out motivated to do some damage.

On the last atlas stone it was not unmanagably heavy but I picked it and was off balance so it took me a few seconds to reset and corral it into my lap so that I could load onto the platform. Nothing wrong with a little suspense at the end of an event, but it did cost me some time!

I was trying to put the keg down nicely instead of throwing them down as some of the others did and on the second keg it bounced up when it hit the tire and one of the metal edges split my thumb open. Noticed the cut on the 3rd keg but kept going and finished out the series. Luckily it closed up pretty quickly and was not a factor on the stones.
