The Five Biggest Contradictions in Fitness

Itís no secret that when people contradict themselves, it has the effect of making the flaws in their actions or statements seem glaringly obvious. But what about when WE ourselves get caught contradicting ourselves by someone else?

    New job. But physical prep...

As most of you know, I am working right now as a network engineer/technical support for a national ISP. Anyway, our company is moving to a larger city nearby, and with this move will come the need for field technicians.

I was offered a 40%+ raise, which I took, and my boss also said he would like me to get out in the field and get my hands dirty with some things. Well, my job will entail being doing installs/repairs/removals of IFU radios, which are placed on the top of ... well, the tallest buildings in Cleveland, lol. I will be the guy that straps on the harness and scales up the building to the top and does the job. So the point of this post is... I really would like to work on my strength, but at the same time I'd also like to stay lean (considering a bulky mass can't scale a skyscraper), and work on endurance... both muscular and cardiovascular. So obviously I will be running some. I was wondering if anyone had some input on a routine trying to accomplish these goals? I've always either ate to grow much larger, or ate to drop a lot of fat in a hurry. Right now I'm 5'10", 182, with a fairly low bodyfat, which is where I would like to be... just, ideally, I would like to be a significant amount stronger, without bulking it up.

I think the strength you are looking for will simply come from actually doing the job. If I were to work on anything, it'd upper body strength. Especially pull-ups and chin-ups (Things like that).

Work on grip strength. That may come in handy.

    You guys are mature

    And you're how old?

Anyway, I would work on grip strength..do static holds and the such. Your upper body will probably be more important for this job, so work on that a bit more.

Yeah, I just made a pun. "grip strength" - "handy". But I was dead serious. Grip strength will help you ALOT if you have to climb anything.

Regardless of an elevator... I've still got to climb out off the ledge and upward to the IFUs. I probably will work on the grip strength, a lot... and do some bodyweight exercises, and bodyweight + more, seeing as the equipment I have to carry up will weigh 20 lbs at the max.

Just need to fine tune my diet for it I guess.
