Quick help. Opening Word 2007 doc with Word 2000 woes.

My GF sent me her resume so I could fax it to the prospective employer from work. Here at work, we have Word 2000, the document was written with Word 2007 (I think), it has a .docx suffix. The work PC opens the file, but it's jibberish (!*gsz, +]$g etc..) Is there another reason I might not be able to open it (other than different versions of Word). My iPhone opens it fine. Is there a way I can open and print this thing?

Try Google Docs. Should be able to upload it, read it, and print it.

Thanks for the reply. In the future, we'll have to remember to save/send things in the .doc format. I couldn't reach her for her to do this and re-send it. I got it converted via zamzar.com, which is a free online converter, and they email the converted file to your email. It looks good too, fonts, spacing and everything. Maybe took twenty minutes. After dealing with this, I've read online that businesses are not happy with Microsoft about it. Imagine the frustration at a well-established business (with Office '03) when they receive 387 files from a new business, and they can't easily read them.

You can easily download a patch for windows 2000 that allows you to open 2007 .docx documents. I've had to do that while at work, as well.

Yeah, I know about that, but the boss has admin controls locked here so we can't download/update anything. And he won't care about it until HE can't open something, then he'll have a ****fit like it's our fault.
