The Five Biggest Contradictions in Fitness

Itís no secret that when people contradict themselves, it has the effect of making the flaws in their actions or statements seem glaringly obvious. But what about when WE ourselves get caught contradicting ourselves by someone else?

No training yesterday. I would normally take a deload this week but i decided to skip that and just take a day off. My elbows are still a little sore so not doing any presses was great.

The Accumulation block is now over and i will be moving into the Transmutation/Intensification block. Pretty happy with how this block went. Especially on my squat, i was able to increase my confidence and form, get faster and i feel my GPP has increased a lot. I do have to say that beating the time on the high volume speed squats becomes a real bitch in that last week, lol.

The next block will be me killing myself with higher percentages and more Barbell supplementary work. Speed work will be done in a three week wave with bands. This is the hardest block, so ofcourse im really looking forward to it . There also wont be complete recovery between training sessions so it will be interesting to see how that works out.

Loving the training so far. I feel strong all the time, instead of being run down. Im also looking forward to training, which is something i havent had for quite some time.

Just in case anyone is interested, this article explains block periodization really well.

    SQ/DL 05-08-2012

    Warm up

    Squat
    barxmany
    5x60kg (135lbs)
    5x80kg (175lbs)
    3x100kg (225lbs)
    1x120kg (265lbs)
    6x3x135kg (295lbs)

    Deadlift
    5x60kg (135lbs)
    3x110kg (245lbs)
    1x140kg (310lbs)
    1x160kg (350lbs)
    6x3x172.5kg (380lbs)

Band Pullthroughs | Standing band Crunch | Band Side bends
    20xsmall | 20xsmall, each side | 20xsmall, each side
    20xsmall | 20xsmall, each side | 20xsmall, each side

All done in one continuous set.

This was quite a bit of work to get through. Squats werent easy or hard. The last set had good speed though. The deads went up really well, rest between sets wasnt more than catching my breath and chalking up again (around a minute).

Squats and pulls in the same session puts hairs on your chest. Nice work mate
This is the true joy in life, the being used for a purpose recognized by yourself as a mighty one; the being thoroughly worn out before you are thrown on the scrap heap; the being a force of Nature instead of a feverish selfish little clod of ailments and grievances complaining that the world will not devote itself to making you happy - George Bernard Shaw

    Bench 05-10-2012

    TH warm up

    Bench
    barxmany
    2x5x40kg (90lbs)

    2x70kg (155lbs)
    1x80kg (175lbs) <- add wrist wraps
    6x3x85kg (185lbs)

Form was ok. I felt i tucked properly but i was lifting a bit too slow. Tightness can also be a little bit better. Still figuring which foot position is best.

    Floor press, index from smooth
    5x40kg (90lbs)
    3x60kg (135lbs)
    3x5x75kg (165lbs)

    Wide grip pulldowns
    5x8x68kg (150lbs)

Band pullaparts | OH band pullaparts | Band pushdowns
    10xsuper mini | 10x super mini | 15xsmall
    10xsuper mini | 10x super mini | 15xsmall
    10xsuper mini | 10x super mini | 15xsmall

One continuous set, no rest. Tri's are pumped brah!

    Pinwheels
    4x8x18's (40's)

Good session. Felt pretty tired pre-workout (sleep hasnt been great this week) but i managed to get it done.

barxmany <- add choked small bands
    2x2xbar

    2x1x80kg (175lbs)

Speed was very good today. Its been a while since i used bands, so on the squat they were really kicking my ass. First time using bands on pulls, it's awesome. Could have went with more tension less weight, which ill do next time.

    TH Warm up

    Bench
barxmany <- add choked mini bands
    2x7xbar
    2x3x40kg (90lbs)
    3x3x50kg (110lbs) <- index on smooth
    3x3x50kg (110lbs) <- thumb from smooth
    2x3x50kg (110lbs) <- pinkies on rings

Sets were ok. Im pretty tight when i start, but i seem to flatten out at the bottom of the first rep, making the following reps pretty ugly. My bar path is also pretty eratic. The last two sets were better as i was controlling the descent more.

    Pin press, chest height
    2x40kg (90lbs)
    2x60kg (135lbs)
    1x70kg (155lbs)
    6x1x80kg (175lbs)

    Seated rows, neutral grip
    5x8xsetting 13

    Reverse peck deck
    4x15x47kg (105lbs)

    Preacher curl
    3x8x25kg (55lbs)
