The Five Biggest Contradictions in Fitness

Its no secret that when people contradict themselves, it has the effect of making the flaws in their actions or statements seem glaringly obvious. But what about when WE ourselves get caught contradicting ourselves by someone else?

Man, you guys get creative :P. Thanks, definitely something to consider. I did read your thoughts on DB Row vs Pendlay rows, which i am going to give a shot. Thanks for the advice.

I agree with the weekend carbups. I've followed low carb Sunday through Thursday, and then "carbed up" on the weekends (which, for me, basically meant a lot of cheating and drinking), but I cut down very well. I was the leanest I ever was, and I wasn't lacking strength and energy because I wasn't completely eliminating carbs.

    Good job overall man!
Yeah its working out pretty well. The weekends allow me to focus during the week and work towards something. With giving myself only one meal i still limit the damage it could possible do.

I have also stopped drinking almost completely, which to me makes a huge difference. It seems to take a couple of days before your body starts burning fat again after a night of heavy drinking.

I stole the weekend carb up idea that you mentioned in here before, so thanks for that .

Nice to see you're happy with the recomp Luna...its a satisfying feeling, I'd imagine. I'm not really familiar with the program you're on...how long before you're scheduled to hit 3pps on squats?
The program i am, was following is HCT-12. I have changed it up slightly, because i am having some recovery issues. I now focus on 1-2 compounds per session where i use the clusters. I follow this up with higher reps, slightly more volume.

I hit a 3pps single rep last week. If linear progress keeps going i should at 3pps for 6 reps in 3 weeks.

    Yesterdays session

    Bench
    3,2,2,1x87.5kg (195lbs)

    BB Row
    6,2,2,2x70kg (155lbs)

    Dips
    6xBW, 5xBW

    Facepulls SS Side laterals
    2x15x35kg (75lbs) | 2x15x7's (15's)

    Chin-ups
10 breaths in between every rep
    30xBW

    Overhead pressdown
    15x35kg (75lbs), 9x35kg (75lbs)

Had great fun with all of this. Form on bench is getting better, but i do need to get the weight on my traps more.

My lower back was pretty sore and stiff so i didnt go very heavy on the rows. These were done pretty strict which felt good.

Loved dips. Definitely something that will be included from now on. Im going to work up to 2 sets of 10 and then add a third set. After that, ill start adding weight.

I focussed on getting a bit of volume on the chin-ups. All reps were very clean with a large rom. Im really starting to see the benefits of BW exercises and will add these in from now on.

Overhead pressdowns gave me a great pump.

I had a good carb up after this. Around 200 carbs around my training. I also had some cheesecake at night that my girlfriend made, which was amazing.

Im going a little bit lower carb today and then back to dieting as per usual as of tomorrow.

Im starting to get complements on how i have lost weight, which is nice. I still have a long way to go before i get where i want to be.
I can see a small outline of the top two abs, but that is about it. I do hold most of my fat in the lower area of my stomach and lower back. Vascularity is not very noticeable (forearms having the most) but i have never had a lot of that going in, probably genetics.
Upper back is starting to look ok though.

The core of your body is one of the last areas to lose bodyfat. Basically you will lose the weight and see more improvements from your extremeties then inward towards your core. If you think about it circumference-wise, your arms, and legs have a smaller circumference and your waist has the largest circumference so there is more fat storage in that area, typically.

Genetics plays a large part in vascularity, some guys have a great deal of it and some dont. One thing I can say is that I am noticing a lot more "new" veins with my second contest prep compared to my first contest prep of last year. The veins are also showing through much earlier compared to last year.

With dieting repetition you may notice certain things develop more thoroughly or more quickly as you get better with the dieting process.

Keep doing what you are doing, you sound like you are on the ball with everything. Don't over binge like I just did!

    Rack pulls
    6,2,2,2x200kg (440lbs)

    GHR
10xBW <- breaks in between reps
    5xBW <- single set

    Pull throughs
    10x35kg (75lbs)
    10x40kg (85lbs)
    10x45kg (100lbs)
    10x45kg (100lbs)

    DB Hammer curl
    10x16's (35's)
    6x20's (45's)

    Cable Curl
    14x50kg (110lbs) -> dropset 3 times max reps

Supine Twisting Medicine Ball Pike SS Leg raises
    2x10xBW | 2x10xBW

Rack pulls were really easy, so i kept the rest between the clusters around 10 breaths. Pins were set just above the knee. Didnt feel any soreness in my lower back which makes me very happy. My lower back is a little sore and stiff today, but not more than usual.

The GHR's were incredibly hard. After the first rep my calves and hams cramped up, so i took my time and got several reps in. The second set was pretty solid. Really an exercise i need to work hard on.

I tried to get more ROM on the pullthroughs which worked really well. Back pump was great.

Moved through the rest pretty fast. Feeling good at the moment.

Nice to hear about the benching Luna! I have been focusing a lot more on the setup of my bench and all things considered, I thnk its been a huge improvement for me. If I had put this effort in a year ago I'd have been much happier, as I am sure you will be too.

Also gotta be pretty exciting to know you're close to 315x6!!!! Lookin awesome in here dude...keep up the hard work.

Yeah its really exciting. 315x5 has been a goal now for close to 2 years and im getting very close to it. Small form tweaks can indeed have a big impact.

Great session. Was dripping with sweat and breathing hard throughout the session.

Very happy with the chin ups considering i couldnt do more than 2 last week. Reps were very clean with great ROM.

Lower back was feeling ok. Tomorrow will be squats so im hoping my back wont give me any issues.

Diet has been very solid the past days. I am thinking about how i can step it up though, but im unsure how. Any tips would be well received .
