The Five Biggest Contradictions in Fitness

Itís no secret that when people contradict themselves, it has the effect of making the flaws in their actions or statements seem glaringly obvious. But what about when WE ourselves get caught contradicting ourselves by someone else?

    Brian999's Journal

I've been doing SS for about 3 months now, but just decided to make a log. Been lifting for about 8 months altogether.

Was rushing a little today so I didn't warm up like I wanted, but I got things done.

    Squats:
    1x5x45lbs
    1x5x135lbs
    1x3x205lbs
    Working Sets:
3x5x245 Working my way up again with the squats, because I wasn't progressing like I wanted.

    Press:
    1x5x45
    1x5x95
    1x2x115
    Working Set:
    2x5x135
1x4x135 Was tired didn't take a big enough rest between sets, because I had to leave pretty soon.

    Power Cleans:
    1x5x95
    1x3x115
    Working Set:
5x3x135 Cleans, are the same as the press, these were easy so Im going to increase the weight next time around. I was planning on doing that today but I forgot.

    1x3x205lbs
    Working Set:
    3x5x250

    Bench:
    1x10x45
    1x5x135
    1x5x185
    Working Set:
    3x5x205~paused on the first set

    Deadlift:
    1x4x135
    1x5x205
    1x1x315

    Did a little cardio today

30 minutes on the trails behind my house, I did it at a fast walking pace. Half of it was uphill also. Easier then going all the way to the gym.

OK workout squat went up 5 pounds, but I started getting dizzy on the strict overhead presses, and a little bit on the power cleans , so those didn't go to well. I did increase the weight on the cleans still but only did it for 3 reps. Because of the dizzyness, I stayed at the gym a little longer then usual.

    Squats:
    1x5x45
    1x5x115
    1x2x205lbs
    Working Set:
    3x5x260

    Press:
    1x3x45
    1x5x95
    1x2x115
    Working Sets:
    2x5x145
    1x5x135

    Power Cleans:
    1x5x95
    Working Sets:
    3x3x150
    2x3x135

    Squats:
    1x10x45
    1x5x115
    1x3x205lbs
Working Sets: Wanted to give box squats a try so, I did one set of them. The box was low about 2-3" below parallel. I like them, but dont want to mess with the program too much.
    1x6x260~ box
    2x5x260

Bench: Didn't have a spotter so I used dumbells, spotter came late after my first set, so I did a little extra work today.
    Warmup
    60lb dumbells
    Working set:
    1x5x95lb dumbells
    THEN~ Flat Barbell
    1x10x45
    1x6x115
    1x6x185
    Working Sets:
    3x5x205

    Deadlifts:
    1x3x135
    1x2x205
    Working Set:
1x5x335 Forgot to increase the weight, will next time.

Lifted yesterday but late at night, so I didn't have time to put it on here. Tried to increase weight on everything, so the numbers are different for each set, mostly just trying to see how much I can do, Im hoping I can do everything at the same weight for all the reps like rippetoe recommends, thats my goal for now. Im hoping I can make that happen by this time next month!

    Squats:
    1x3x45
    1x5x115
    1x2x205lbs
    Working Sets:
    1x5x265
    2x5x260

    Press:
    1x5x45
    1x3x95
    1x1x115
    Working Sets:
1x3x165~again seeing how much I can do, while still keeping good form.
    2x5x145

Power Cleans: They took a while, the gym was pretty packed so I had to do a rep and wait until I had enough space!
    1x3x95
    Working Sets:
    1x3x155
    2x5x145
    2x3x135

    No squatting today.

    Bench: No spotter used dumbells

    1x5x40
    1x5x60
    Working Set:
    3x5x95lb dumbells~ Incline

    Deadlift:
    1x3x135
    1x5x205
    Working set:
1x5x365 ~ deadlifts felt easier today, maybe because I didn't squat, I was just trying to see If I do one rep but it wasn't that hard at all. Im going to stick to this weight for a while though

In and out of the gym in around 35 minutes.

Gonna update the journal again. Im going to stay on SS for another month or so I have the Texas method book and after going through it I want to wait until I hit what they consider intermediate for my weight. 155lb press, 225lb bench, 301lb squat, 351 dead, and 217 power clean. Max press is 175 for 2 reps. Bench is at 245, squat is at 295 and dead is at 401, and power clean at 145. It's mostly my squat and power clean. Im going to work hard on getting those up, and do it all for 3x5.

    Anyways...

    Yesterday: August 24th

    Squat: ATG
    1x5x295
    1x3x295
    1x2x275
    1x5x275

Next workout Im going to try very hard to hit 3x5x295

    OH press:

1x1x175 For some reason I couldn't do another rep so I racked the bar reset it, and hit it again
    1x1x175
    1x3x165
    1x5x155
    1x3x155
    1x2x155

Didn't have time for power cleans It takes me at least 20-15 min to finish all my sets and it was getting late and my gym was closing. A shame to I really need to get the power clean numbers up. Finished it off with Pull-ups.

    Pull-ups:

    1x9xBW
    1x7xBW

Thanks for the kind words bri!

Good workout today hit 315 squat for the first time!

    Squat:
    Warm up
1x1x315 Wiped the floor with this, I was afraid I wouldn't be able to come back up.
    1x3x295
    1x4x295
1x5x275 Just tried to make up for the other missed reps

    Bench: Currently deloading
    Warm up
    1x5x225
    1x6x225
    1x5x225

    Deadlift: deloading as well
    Warm up
1x5x365 EASY, did them really fast.

I was going to do dips, but some guy was hogging the dip bars, so I just did some tri rope pulldowns

    3x10x85lbs

Good workout, I need to deload on the OH presses because I've been stuck at 155 for 6-7 workouts. I did do 165 for 2 reps today and the rest were 155, but last workout I did 175 for 1 rep, and 165 for 2.

    Squat:
    warm-up
    1x5x295
    1x4x295
    1x1x295
    1x1x295
    1x4x275

    OH press:
    warm-up
    1x2x165
    1x3x155
    1x5x155
    1x5x155

    Power cleans:
    warm-up
3x5x155 tough, Im weak on the power cleans.

    pull-ups

    1x7xBW~215
    1x6xBW
    1x4xBW
