23 day sobriety bet/ challenge from a good friend

A good friend of mine bet me that I couldn't go a month without drinking any alcohol. I got it down to 23 day's because that's when my 4th of July vacation starts. Pathetically if completed it would most likely be the longest time I've gone without drinking in almost a decade. It kind of sucks being in the middle of the summer and all but I feel this is a great oppertunity to find some self control, do other things and really take my training up a notch. Today was the completion of day three. Friday the 26th here I come.

You were drinking more than every 23 days when you were 12?

^ no, that is DEFINITELY something for somebody that doesn't drink a lot. Get out of your own narrow perspective.

    What?
For somebody that does drink a lot?

Yea, if they're an alcoholic. Other then that no. If you like to drink every weekend get drunk and have a beer on the weekdays still 23 days is nothing.

If you think 23 days without drinking sounds like a serious challenge, you should find out if there is alcoholism or addiction in your family.

Drinking a few beers every other day is very common.

Been drinking since I was 13. Not the greatest childhood but I'm not going to cry about it.

Also to everyone. It's not like I drink and get sloshed every time I drink. I have many friends that drink socially. I'm 22, in great shape and have a great career. It's also not like I have made a commitment to go without alcohol for a certain time period before. It just so happens that I have drink more than every 23 day's. Great feedback guys! insert sarcasm.

Yeah, how dare other forum members comment about the fact that you have a very real problem that you don't even recognize. How dare they do this after you freely explain the situation on a public messageboard. A messageboard designed to create opportunity for others to express their opinions. And especially how dare they offer good advice on how to fix this problem for yourself.

    Insert sarcasm.

Good on ya brother. I went a long while last year without drinking because of a bad experience (about 6 months). I felt great, and I made some awesome gains. I started drinking again, but i've kept it in moderation. I feel better than ever now. I'll still go out and get hammered though for my buddies birthdays and ****, but I definitly dont drink like I used to.

Good luck man. Let us know how your training reacts, and how you feel.

He said hes in great shape and has a great career. He said he doesn't get sloshed every time he drinks and just it happens to be that he has at least one drink every 23 days.

I don't see how this will be very hard for ya Bran Man! Make it no drinking for 23 days but on the last day you must polish a 26er of Baileys in 1 hour.

I'm very excited about what results I will yield without better sleep, diet and just overall better health. That's really what this post was about. It was about how excited I was to be getting my **** together a little more and making even better gains that I already have. I understand that I drink often but in all honesty most people around me my age do the same if not worse.

Oh, and I'm not really into advice on how to fix this problem. I'm very content drinking 2-3 times a week. Honestly coming home after a hard long day at work and sitting on the deck and having a couple beers is pretty relaxing. This post was about the oppertunity for great gains and exercising some self control, but thanks for your concern.

I think there's a difference between getting hammered 2-3 times a week and having a couple of beers 2-3 times a week.

Sounds like you do the latter mate so it's not as much of an issue as some people are making out. I like to have the odd beer now and again and will go out and get smashed once or twice a month for birthdays or if I go to the football or summet. Nowt wrong with it.

Good luck with it anyway mate I'm sure you'll notice some positive effects from not drinking.

I can't remember the last time I had a drink. 23 days without drining should be easy. If it's not, you might have a problem.

Where is the very real problem and where was the advice? Where is the advice in your post? Looks more like people being douche bags and making assumptions about the OP than any real concern or advice. Considering the OP is 22, it's not a shock that he drinks more often than every 23 days.

Bran Man, good luck with your bet. I did the same thing when I was 22 and it wasn't that bad. Sucks when you go out and your friends have a few and you can't. Doesn't suck that you don't have a drink, just that you know you can't.
