    Powerful shoulders?!

    Another quick question
Which exercise (using a barbell or dumbells) is best for shoulders?

You can find the answers to questions like this and your previous one by using the search function.

Major compound pressing movements, like bench and overhead-presses.

I'd prefer barbells for the simple reasons of having more control and being able to push more weight.

Whatever you like. You will find 6 people who swear the only way to workout is with a barbell. Then you will hear 6 people who swear the best way to workout is with dumbbells. You will just need to try both and pick one for yourself.

I prefer a barbell for flat benching, dumbbells for incline benching, dumbbells for overhead pressing, and dumbbells for rowing. You could open this up for discussion and get a million people telling me 2 million different ways I should workout...

    Try this:

    - Do HEAVY standing overhead presses (barbell) for low reps (5 or less)
    - Do the heaviest weight you can with DB's for overhead presses for higher reps (6 - 10 rep range)
    - Do power cleans
    - Do pull-ups (both weighted and unweighted)
    - Bench press (heavy)
    - Bent over rows (heavy)
    - Deadlift heavy too

If all these things are included in your routine, your shoulders will be huge.

hard to argue with this guys OH press

once you start pushing heavier weight, you can't really microload your weight incrementation with dumbbells either. incrementing 10lbs at a time can be difficult to scale. in some gyms, heavier DBs only increase in 10lb increments so you'd be forced to increase by 20lbs at a time.

However, you can increment by 5lbs at a time with a barbell or you can use fractional plates and go in .5-1lb increments, which is great especially with programs like intermediate 5x5 etc.

pretty much this. press with a barbell for low reps. if you want to mix in dumbbell presses with that as well, then do higher reps.
    Stats: Bodyweight : Current= 150 lbs, Height = 5ft11.5

    Bench Press:160 lbs/Squat:225 lbs,/Deadlift:305/Total:675lbs/

Not strong yet, but getting there.

I agree, and that would normally be my answer to question like this and other "how do I get big shoulders" questions. But I dunno, I really think that deads, bench, pullups, power cleans, etc...all play a huge role in shoulder development too, which is why I listed them all.

Agreed, powerful and compound barbell motions build everything. I would say barbell presses are the mac daddy though. Other than face pulls for rear delts it's my only direct shoulder exercise. I have been told I have big shoulders.

    Vince,

Any reason you don't do behind-the-neck OHP? I personally feel like it targets my shoulders better.

I know your question was directed towards Vincent, but behind the neck can put alot of strain on your rotator cuffs, and could result in long term injury
